Nah, I would think I'm too far for him. It would cost at least 100 bucks in gas for him to get near me I think.

So...just got back from my first serious kayak shopping trip.I went up to a store in Eureka (Pro Sports) ,and checked out the Hobies.Reed and Aaron were very helpful, plus I'm beginning to find out just how big the kayak fishing community is up here on the far north coast. Then I went up to another store in Arcata( The Outdoor Store) owned by the same people. There I met Greg, the head kayak guru dude, and he was very helpful. They have demo rides also.So this is fun already.About all I came away with for ideas on a kayak is that I sure like the Outback and the Revolution, but I like how the Outback is laid out and the extra rod holders ,and there seems to be more room for mounting stuff. Thanks again guys for all the help.I'll be on "Mission Yak" for a while...Tim

Outback is a Great Choice...

I like the stability of the Outback, the position of the rudder is also a bonus compared to the revo and adventure in that it's a comfortable reach, vs, fondling it under your upper thigh,  things ya all get used too, if ya like that sort of thing....

The Revo/Adven are faster/ maneuverability....  Outback does fine too...

not sure from your post, but have ya got to try'em yet?

That is Really the true test.

I have not tried out any of the Hobies yet.I'm waiting for the weather to break a bit  .We have had 8-10" of rain just this week. Can't wait to test drive though.I' think I'm leaning towards the Outback or the Revolution for today, but who knows I'm just having a yak attack.Tim

So what are the advantages or disadvantages of the Mirage propulsion system vs a paddle kayak?

since I have two torn rotator cuffs I cannot paddle so the Hobie pedal yaks work for me.  I have a Pro Angler and a Outback.  the Pro Angler is the ultimate in stability and set up for fishing from the get go.  I have not used either in salt water so can't give you any feedback there.  I am 6'3" and the PA has more than enough room.

Tim, I'm on my second outback and highly recommend this model.  If you are going to haul a lot of crab pots this is the yak for you.  On a calm day I can carry 5-6, 20lb crab pots.  Upgrade to the turbo fins and the sailing rudder, you'll go faster and spin broadies.
