I have known John at Windtoys for a very long time, and can say without hesitation that he is a GREAT guy.  What he told Hobie was that they should offer to upgrade the old carts with an extension of some sort so that this does not get repeated.  In the mean time I wait!

If I did not have Lisa's Revo to rely on and if the weather was not so crappy out, I would be a bit more agressive!

Hi Zinful1:

Worst case "7 On Your Side" could turn up the Pucker Factor. I
would be Pissed if I spent that much Money on a Yak and, couldn't take
it out. I would start looking for another Yak by "Ocean Kayak" before too long! :smt044

For real tho.  As Danglin and I can both personally attest, when we warranteed our hulls (separately), our vendors and Hobie made it very easy.  And I didn't even have to get all Boston Legal on their ass - it really was a quick piece of cake.  Hang in there zin, we're rooting fer yuh

I was asked to take a look at this thread. I have not yet reached Wind Toys on this. Too early in the AM. I will call them in a bit to get the scoop. I have no warranty claim info on this one.

The overview:  Cart damage to a scupper is not necessarily a warranty issue. The cart needs to be fully inserted into the scuppers. The strength is in the hull and cockpit surfaces. ALL of our carts have ALWAYS been long enough for full insertion in an Outback. The only recent change is for Pro Angler as that hull requires longer posts. If the cart pops out and then is jammed into the tube of the scupper... and it fails... that is not necessarily indicating a defect in the hull. We will look at the claim and likely need to see photos and the scupper itself to see that it is unusual in some way. We then determine coverage based on the age of the hull.

Ok, got the scoop.

This is an issue of using an older cart without the top dome cap in place (lost), which leaves a sharp edge on the top tube exposed... bouncing the boat over rocks caused the cart to pull down into the scupper and, then I take it, hitting rocks has jammed the post into the scupper.

Its not a clear warranty issue but, we will review the claim when received and try to assist in getting the customer back on the water.

So, the caps on my Wheelez have since popped off too, but I don't think I hurt my hull yet.  Should I contact Hobie for the 'defect' in my cart?

You can order caps from your dealer. You should have them in place rather than the blunt end... it helps, but is not mandatory. If you don't wedge the cart in crooked... not an issue.

Scuppers are not expected to withstand the leverage force of a partially inserted cart hitting something. They aren't "fragile".

Sounds like adding straps to the cart would be a good idea...

Generally speaking, Hobie has been good to their customers so to base one's opinion about their customer service on this one situation would be unfair.
