So, Shannon and I are unable to make another trip to Mexico this year, but we thought maybe fishing La Jolla for a long weekend or something might be nice.  Anyone make the trip south to fish that area?  times of year etc?
Or, maybe a few of us can make a pilgrimage and visit our So-Cal brothers.

Thoughts?

I actually was thinking along the same lines. I have in laws in Ventura and every time I drive down look at all the sweet spots along the way. A yak fishing safari down the coast would be cool. Pismo, Santa Barbara, LJ, ??? Those oil rig platforms off S.B look so good. I have no clue if its doable or holds any fish.

I'd be down...  I have friends and family all around the coast and I've been surfing socal for years.  Definitely some good spots to fish out of malibu, redondo, etc...    I know ventura county line and Leo Carillo is great for surf launches and have seen yakkers fishing the kelp beds just outside of the breakers.  Plus the warmer water is a welcome change.

Crazy, my son and sister live in Camarillo, I lived there as well for 14 years before moving up here.  Use to fish the oil piers (when they were still there) and County Line in kayaks.  Fun stuff.
Maybe this is something we can do.  I'll check out the link that Mooch posted as well.  Gotta figure out time of year etc.  Logistics man, logistics.

Looks tempting, but the rates don't say anything about if you have your own kayak and gear.

All gear and kayaks provided, except clothes and fishing license per the site....

I saw that, but what i was saying, if a group of us does go, we already have our own gear and kayaks, do we get a cheaper rate?

It would be cool to get a convoy of yaks cruising south for three or four days.  :smt002

you would need to talk to jim about that.  another good site to read is bigwatersedge.com and plasticnavy.com also has a bit of information about that area.

Oh right. I would guess we could strike up a deal. We all have the gear and don't need a hand holding. Just a human GPS and FF and maybe a few rigging tricks.

I'm gonna email them and ask if they would consider doing an on the water demo for some Nor-Cal Kayak Anger members and see what they have to say.

I'm liking this idea more and more.  i am thinking maybe a mid to late august trip.  i would like to stay a few days so I can fish both the ocean in La Jolla as well as fish Mission Bay.
Me thinks i need to start discussing this with Shannon now.  :smt002

I read in another S. Cal fishing forum that there is a place in La Jolla that you can shore launch yaks and go for yellow tail at a certain time of thge tear.  I believe it was June or July.  I think that would be a blast to give that session a try.

La Jolla can be pretty easy to fish.  Especially in the summer, there will be so many kayak fishermen as well as PBers, it'll be pretty easy to find the spots.
