We will be using ch 69

Bink if you do not have a kayak by then you can use my wife's hobie sport as long as you think you can fit in it.

Thanks a lot for the offer.  Unfortunately, I might be too big as I am 6'0 tall and 195 lbs, I may also be bringing my daughter (3 1/2 year old) with me, and she will want to ride with me (at least for a little while).  I am pretty hopeful that I will have my kayak by then.  I am currently leaning toward either an OK Trident or Prowler 13 with the current edge going to the Trident.  I am hoping to try both of these guys in the next week so I can make a decision.

Bink, if I am not carpooling can bring a P15 or T15 for you to use.

Thanks for your offer as well :)  However, if I have my kayak by then, you might be able to carpool with me.  I will have to see if the car rack I am purchasing will allow for two kayaks.

Even without meeting anyone in person, I'm feeling like a part of the community already!

Michael

I may have a conflict.  I need to learn to use my Humminbird FF/GPS and Glory Hole is having a seminar that day.  I don't know the exact time or location.  Hopefully it is on the lake.  I will get more details tomorrow.

Here is the info available:

Sign up today for our free electronics seminar/lab, to be held on February 20th, 2010.  This 5-to-6-hour lab will cover everything from basic usage to GPS and side-positioning.   Sponsored by Hummingbird, but will be useful information for all electronics systems.  Speakers/teachers are familiar with all brands and can help you with yours.     Call the store at (209) 736-4333 for details and to sign up.

Count me in! Sounds like it will be a great time. Looking forward to meeting you all, and Ben let me know if I can help out or bring anything...

BTW I would be interested in carpooling, I live in Emeryville...

Well, I've planted the seed - several times - and am making arrangements for the kids.  Will keep my fingers crossed.

knowing glory hole's seminars, it is probably held at their shop which is a short distance to the lake.  i would imagine it would run from around 8-9am to whenever since that seems to be standard for their seminars in the past.

there is also a possible small bass tournament for that day but i dont think they will interfere too badly - looks like around 10 boats and they will likely launch from glory hole and go zip zapping all the way around the lake.  i will probably pre-fish the lake on president's day and let you guys know my results.  i'll be begging up some sponsors in a couple weeks at the ISE show

I talked with Melanie at Glory Hole Store.  The seminar will be held at the Rod and Gun Club across the street form the store.  The seminar will be from 10-3 with different topics scheduled at different times.  I will probably spend the night before at the lake and fish sun up, go to the seminar for a while and make it back for the NCKA gathering.

See you there

Clarification here.  This is NOT an NCKA sanctioned event so please do NOT represent it as such when approaching sponsors.

I am not saying that NCKA doesn't support the ideas of informal tournaments, just that there are potential liability issues involved.  There is also the issue of sponsorship value.  We have goals with sponsorship and offer sponsors value in return.  Anything outside of that plan can disrupt our goals and our sponsors perceived value.

Yup understood, will not be mentioning ncka at all when talking to others, understand the liability of such especially for an informal get together

Ben, are you thinking about hitting up any local shops?  Say, Glory Hole, Delta, Bait & Tackle (Fisherman's Warehouse), Escalon Bait & Tackle, Bass Pro, Bait Barn, Valley Sporting Goods, etc.  There is also a store in Oakdale on HW 108 but I can't think of their name.  Are there any fishing/sporting good stores in Turlock?  I was just thinking that you might have better luck staying closer to home.

What kind of stuff are you looking for exactly?  Wish I still lived closer to the area, it kinda sounds like fun.

Yes I will be talking to a few closer to home as well.  Looking to get maybe a rod and reel ,some lure packs from people like vance staplin and sep hendrickson, etc. At the worst I will buy a few things.

Wow, a rod and reel.  I was just thinking lures.  Way to be optimistic.  Anything for the winner?

In the spirit of years past, this will be free and we will be considering it an informal gathering.

I think the first year it was a MBF with a $10 entry fee but I could be wrong.  Although it was free to fish Melones back then also.

I think you should get a special award if you catch a catfish, Michael  :smt002

i think last year was free so i'm going to keep it free.  if people want to do MBF they are allowed to do so =) just more than i'm willing to work on.

we're gonna do a raffle based drawing out of fairness, but I think the person who catches the biggest confirmed fish (length) will get an extra raffle ticket...

i think the format will be something like this..small pool of prizes, first one picked gets to choose his prize, then that person picks the next ticket, etc. etc. until we're out.  i'll probably be plumping down some bucks for prizes but that's fine with me as i need to give back some to the site's members, i can't always be take take take!  i will probably need some help with grilling up lunch as i don't have a grill (shameful) and my cooking techniques leave much to be desired

I'm in. I may go up on Friday. I can take one more kayak on my Sienna, and live on the peninsula.  PM if you're interested.

OK, so I'll undertake the mission!  Anybody interested in a MBF?  Either single largest fish or largest bag?  $10 entry fee?
