Ps3 can play netfflix online hd movies too if you have netflix unlimited download service.  Play quality of streamed HD movies are great.

Unfortunately I don't play much any more.  Work, family/children, and this darn website take up too much of my time.  The last thing I purchased was the PS2. :smt009   I was more of a sports game kind of guy.
I look forward to the upcoming debate.  This should be good.  :happy1:

Not much help I know.

I prefer the bluray. If you have a puter to send media try out this:

Real cool for either.

I already have a Blu-Ray player. Got the Wii for exercise. Go for the PS3.

Dude, Halo 3 rules...Its all about the xbox live, batteling real people online, the xbox online community is way better, if its for a kid, a boy, its the way to go, the PS3 blue ray rules, but the kids seldom care about that... I have a ton of games and all i play is halo online...

xbox has netflix as well....

I like both systems, but the xbox online gaming is superior...

But ya pay for online on xbox, free on PS3!  Xbox's have many many failures too, like poor solder joints on the cpu's, drive failures, etc.  PS3 I think is a more solid system, never have any issues!  PS3 has built in wireless, easy to upgrad HDD, awesome controllers, and blue-ray.  Halo may be fun, but its not as good as Call Of Duty, which is of course availible on both.

But that said, I think i'll be waiting for this company's product to come out before I get another console:  http://www.onlive.com

xbox 360 has a 35% fail rate.. PS3 has a 1% fail rate. I know 4 people who have had the 360 burn out, not one PS3. Your dropping a wad of bills so go with the PS3.

True, i got the red lights on my xbox, had to send in for repair. Call of duty rules on both systems. But still gotta love Halo, bummer its not available for both.

Either way, both are FUN on cold rainy lazy days!

Good luck.

Here's my take-- i've got both (plus the WII at work)
if you want to play games xbox. If you want anything else PS3.

Microsoft assured itself of a good revenue stream, but all xbox's great features are locked up behind a pay-firewall called xbox live. So, if you want NetFlix streamed, online downloads of movies separate from NF, you have to pay for a "gold membership". So if you want to watch Donwloaded netflix on your xbox you have to pay twice! once for gold membership, and once for your netflix subscription.

PS3 all that is open and you pay only once. Add a broswer, and you're getting closer to the "holy grail appliance"
Sony's business model here is much stronger, and likely to last longer for the general user. Xbox likely will become marginalized as the game console becomes that all important network appliance we've been waiting for. You already see it happening as televisions, PVRs, DVD players all become internet-enabled.
The blu-ray player is nice- but that format won't take off much, as downolads are killing it, and as virtually every US/EMIA resident has broadband you'll see the 1080P downloads in force shortly.

I pulled the trigger on a PS3 yesterday.

reliability-bluray-wireless built in no extra $,- connectivity no extra $- and did I mention reliability?

I am sad no Halo 3, but there's enough 1st person shooters to keep me busy.

thanks for all the input, guys.

Good call.  I like my PS3.  When I got it, it was a great deal since blu-ray players were quite a bit more expensive.  Now that the price of dedicated blu-ray players have dropped, that value proposition has lowered, but still a good deal.

For first person shooters, I'm still on:
