I was hit with kayak madness and needed CURE.

Went to HMB for my 1st crabbing experience at 11A and launch at HMB Yatch Club. Came loaded with 2 Promar 102's courtesy of Lapulapu, 2" pvc pipes with endcaps freshly loaded with HMB sand, one Ling head, two chicken breasts and two chicken legs, two bait jars loaded with frozen fish guts and best tool of all Kayak Crabbing by ChuckE.

Thought it would be wise to gear up b4 launching so baited the Promars one with ling head and one with chicken breast and the two bait jars with fish guts. Since I didn't know the depths, just readied the floats with 20' weighted ropes and 4 sets of 20' ropes.

Fished inside the GREEN buoy at 40 FOW at the following locations:
          WP               Lat/Lon                 Keepers
                                                         Soak1   Soak2   Soak3
Buoy1  H1    37 29.599'/122.28.767'          1R        1R
Buoy2  H2         29.530'/28.586'               2D        1D/2R   1D/1R

With no gps, just paddle out the jetty inside the green buoy at 40 FOW and you will see plenty of floats from overnighters.

Ended the trip 2:30pm with D4R4: 4 dungees and 4 rockies.

I was glad I went out for it. Thanks to NCKA family for your tutorials.

Some pix to follow.

Very nice Danny!  Good luck on the cure, I find the more trips I take the worse the sickness gets.  At least we are all afflicted here and understand each others pain  :smt010

Love the pictures!  I can't wait to see more.  Nothing like a bucket of melted butter and some boiled crabs.

Thanks Matt and Sailfish. Nice to be appreciated.
At least I got a "fix" for the moment.
Until next attack!

Have one question though especially on the rock crabs,
"When the claws grab to something, how do I unclaw fast?"

Sometimes, I had to wait long until it releases. Was tempted to just break them but I want them intact.

Porky,
In my first trip, I found it harder to find the right weather conditiions.
Once out, you will enjoy it.
Promars are cool.
See you out there sometime.

Nice! That's a strange virus that D4R4 strain! But I'm glad to hear you catch it! :smut003
I like the way you have the crabs all lined up like your marching them to there hot bath.
congratulations!

You unclaw as fast as the crab allows, no sooner.  I found that if you let them feel safe, sitting on something solid it doesn't take quite as long.  I've had one get ahold of my thumb for over a minute, it was at least a 7 incher,  major ouch!!!!!!!!!!

Mostly you have to wait them out to let go. I have had some luck touching the other claw with the gauge. It may get them to focus on the other claw and let go

Give it something else to grab at (not your finger  :smt003)  I use a needle nose  :smt002

Danny,

Nice crabs.  I wish I could have gone out yesterday too.  I was in SF getting ready for our golf club's xmas party at the Holiday Inn by fisherman's wharf.  We walked around the wharf and the dungeness was selling for 7/lb.  I had a feeling you were going to get some.  Let me know when you are going again.
