Before I ponied up for a shell & yakima system on my ranger I used a Mirage truck rack that I liked a lot. The rack looks pretty much like a standard lumber rack but they are built using short lengths of aluminum tube (exactly the same size diameter as yakima bars so they accept all yakima accessories) and are adjustable for different uses. Plus, the coolest thing is that the entire rack can be disassembled and stowed if you want an open bed, leaving only the tracks on either bedrail. I still have the system & may use it someday when I get another truck without a shell. My experience with the company was very good & the product worked well for me (I transported 2 touring SOTs and my surf kayak on it for a 600 mile road trip without any hassle). A google search ought to turn up a dealer in your area or you can order it direct.
