Nothing like breaking up a long drive with a stop to fish. Got there at 1545 because a last conference call ran late :smt013 , so didn't try to get out the float tube. I fished plastics by the boat launch--saw some guy and his kids catch some nice Black bass there last year.  Got two dinks and then the ranger drives up checks my license and says its 1658--sunset and the gate is closing. I hate going off DST--it screws up sunset--comes too soon :smt011   So I went over along the shore by the group camp that is first on the road to Check 12 and saw Stripers bustin' bait out of casting range from the shore. tried to reach them--little nuisance Black Bass hit the popper but were to small to get hooked. Next time I have this little voice saying put on the waders--I'll listen--I could have waded close enough I think :smt010 Went over to check Check 12 and shore fished a popper with my 9-wt fly rod--one Striper caught in the pitch dark--a little schoolie about the size of a Sunfish :smt015 . The wind was howling when I left--near 1-foot waves over by the islands cuz I checked there on the way out by the wind-surfer launch. By then I just felt it satisfied my fishin' Jones and decided to drive home to see the kids before bed time :smt001. Not a great fishing day by numbers, but what a nice break from driving for a few hours. The Forebay is going to be good this year--I can just feel it.
