Hey Steve would love to meet you. Can I take a rain check and meet you some time later in Nov ?  I am flying out on Sunday for Seattle.

QUESTION: Has anyone taken this kayaking course offered in Oakland ? http://www.calkayak.com/infopop.cfm?classID=194  .  I have kayak a few times before while on vacation, but have never taken formal training. Any suggestions on classes, clinics etc is appreciated. I am willing to travel so any suggestion, both in the Bay Area and outside is appreciated.

I fish kayaking this addicting. I find myself thinking about it all the time, and I have not even hit the water. So far, I find nothing that will stop my desire to learn this, other than this vision of a Great White shark eating me.  :smt005

back2fish, don't worry about whitey, if you do encounter him, it won't take him long to stop the pain..............but I would highly recommend not fishing with bluekayak, he is a shark magnet, and wants pictures from his yak. I thought I was hardcore, but he make me look like I'm in diapers. Bluekayak, nothing but respect is meant from this post.....YOU DA MAN!!!

Enough newbie talk ... let's get out and fish so you are can get past this rookie stage.  The learning curve is amazingly fast and there are many people here to help you along the way.

Take Joel or Josh up on their spare boat offers.  Or ride the front seat on my Triple.  Watch the Hookups page.

Henry, as a former newbie (yes, you've been out enough times now to be considered a "sophomore"), this would be a great place to chime in on your experience.  Better yet, write an article!!!

....that's why it always good to kayak-fish with a buddy....if see a shark fin coming at ya, paddle over to you "buddy" and tip him over with you paddle.  :smt064  I practice this with Bill every chance I get - this is why Bill now arms himself with a super soaker  :smt072  - It's part of my "self-rescue" training  :smt002

Ahhh ... kayaking buddies ... with friends like these, who needs enemies.  Reminds me of the time I was working with a white water kayaker newbie who was just learning to roll.  He was getting pretty good at it in the flatwater.  And he was getting cocky as hell too.  Then I did what my teacher did to me.  The next time he flopped over to practice, I rode up on his kayak so there was no way he was going to be able to roll.  It was quite funny as now he got to practice his wet exit.  But just so you don't think I'm just mean., when you are in a rapid there are many factor that can throw your roll off.  It was a good experience for him to get the unexpected in the flatwater so when he hits it in the whitewater he won't freak out as much.  We laugh about it to this day.

Sure thing-- raincheck- no problem.  The rain might slow the bite, but there are places where we can get into them through the winter here in marin...
