My god that was an awesome looking trip!  I really wished I could have made it.  I was busy writing tickets yesterday morning, then went to 6 flags with the GF and kids.  I am such a dumbass, I went on one ride that looked somewhat mello, and now my back is SMOKED.  The kids had a great day though.  Nice stringers of fish men, and some of those OTW pics are just flat amazing! (pun intended)

Wow!  I really missed it this time.  Great report and it looks and sounds like it was an unbelievable day.  I'll have to wait until next year to fish the Fort.

Wow, what an unexpected treat.  The weather was perfect, and the fishing was not too bad either.  It was great meeting some new folks and hanging out with everyone.

another beautiful day at the fort. the skies were clear and the sea was flat. there were at least 15 kayakers on the water. i launched with ernest(lucky-13) about 8:30 and we did some absnatching for a bunch clickers in the north cove. visibilty was great. After that, we paddled north and spent the rest of the day filling our stringers with assorted rockfish including a few nice reds. i was fishing knife-jigs tipped with whole squid. it was a wonderful day on the water and spirits were high.  i'll post pics in the morning.
Jack, thanks again for coaching me on my second ever Ab dive. The scolopamine worked, and I was able to enjoy the dive more. I'm a bit more confident now. I ended up with 2 abs, 1 legal cab, 1 underling, and lost count on the number of rock fish. Needless to say WAF points have been recharged. Wife loves abalone. I also want to thank hightide for the hookup. Great weather. Great crowd. I'm really glad I took the day off for this event.

Shoot, brought my new camera, but with all the excitement, I forgot to take pictures and videos ;(

What a nice way to meet new kayak anglers.  Thanks to everyone for such a fine day...the weather was just a bonus.  I counted 17 kayaks OTW at one time, a few may have been from another launch.  Those who know me know how seriously I take this kayak fishing thing.  I've fished with more guys in most fisheries around the country and the community that NCKA has nurtured is truly remarkable.
Jack finishes the season with 100% forcasting accuracy and my ongoing gratitude!  I plan on reciprocating with the steelhead call.

Stuff I was thing about....
Little 3 foot dolphins were in feeding on baitfish yesterday.  Next season I'll make some bait.  Pin a sardine or Pacific mac next to or over some some structure and something good will happen.
Next year, I'll have my color sonar back onboard, I think it makes all the difference in the world for fishing detailed structure.  I'm so used to telling entry level anglers to wait awhile on a fishfinder (and not to look for fish w/it) but the SWRF fishery is different than most.
The butterknife jig is brilliant Dave and a generous share....Dr. Habenero's pix don't do the stringer justice...I geared up from 20 to 30# test for fishing thick kelp.  While it didn't produce a legal ling or cab, I only lost 1 lure and whacked half a dozen 4-5# blacks and blues...Where are the greenling?... and Danglin?...I catch more reds 5-20 cranks off the bottom depending on the depth. Where there is one red, there are more.
Thanks to All,
Spike

Great time otw, I kept 2 nice reds, a27" ling, a big gopher and black, and released many more. Next day got 3 abs from just s of ocean cove with the "red barn" crew, thanx guys! and 2 big urchins, great harvest, my first fish of the season was a Ft Ross Red so it seems fitting to end it that way, Ill post pics in a bit, plus video of the pumpkin we blew up. What fun!
