Hey there,
this is my first post. I just got a new kayak and new pole. I have tried kayak fishing a little with my Dad's gear and loved it and now i am looking to go myself. But my Dad lives in Oregon so i don't know the bay that well yet, when it comes to kayak fishing. Any suggestions on where to go? I was hoping to go Saturday or Sunday morning. I will also like to meet more kayakers and learn from experience so if anyone is free to go feel free to suggest a place and a time to meet. :)

Welcome aboard and to the MADNESS!  If you want to meet someone to fish with, check the "Hookups" section and it might be helpful if you add the city where you live on your profile.

Welcome WWSJD.
You've taken your "into-to-kayaking class" from a reputable kayak shop already and know how to perform a self rescue, right?

Sorry for the vague post! I am used to sloppy forums where no one really reads your post. ><
A little more detail. I've spent over a decade learning how to Kayak on my Dad's ocean kayaks. I am quite profficient at kayaking and can comfortably paddle open water. But i have very little experience with fishing, and even less with kayak fishing. Since kayaking has been the one sport i have kept up with all my life i am hoping to spend more time doing in the wonderful bay area! i have new 13 foot sit on top and have tried it out a few times at Del Valle. I have tried to get my friends into kayaking but not much luck. I am kinda shy so generally I don't care for forums and online hook ups but this is something i am passionate enough about that i am willing to make the effort.
I hope that helps! :)

WWSuperJesusDo:
I noticed your locale says Dublin.  I live in San Ramon and have recently gotten into the madness/addiction myself.  I'm a newb so you don't want to be OTW with me alone, but I am planning on fishing San Mateo Coast Friday and Stump Beach on Saturday.  Both locations are noted in the Hookups section.

welcome, be safe and have fun.

you know, i just met someone yesterday at Del Valle that i think is kind of in a similar situation to you.  maybe he will post up a hookup soon (i did tell him to).  you're free to join me anytime, i pretty much always post where i'm going as long as its not on one of my "mental health days" from work.

just to warn you though - i pretty much never catch any fish worth talking about  :smt002

welcome aboard jesus dude !! i too am a long time kayaker converted to kayakfisherman. i figured it would be easy to convert since i had all the boating skills. i was wrong. Catching fish requires alot more skill than i had anticipated. Furthermore, fishing while kayaking, complicates everything. It is gonna be flat calm at ft ross on thursday. You should come on out (see hook-ups).

P.S. if there is anyway you can afford to quit your job, then you should go ahead and do so.

From Dublin one of your closest places with good fishing (at least this time of year) is Lake Del Valle. Keep an eye out on the hookups and you'll likely see me or someone else posting a trip there soon. Good luck and welcome!

Welcome WWSJD

I too had no luck getting friends to go out on a Yak.

Now I have even more friends. You will find that you will get a lot of response and good knowledge here, we don't mess around.
As it has been already stated Safety First!

Just go to the Hookups section where you will see a lot of opportunity to go.
After you get in with a group, the ocean is yours, we also do a lot of outings to the lakes and SF bay, whatever spare time (and money) you used to have will be a thing of the past.

Keep reading the reports and you can glean a lot of info on lures, gear and technique here.

If you ever get to the Santa Cruz or Monterey area, post and I will join you

Stoggie

my first trip on the ocean was monterey , easy launch and faily safe waters , i practiced self rescue all day while i put fishing to the side , i also tested my boats limitations by crawling up to open the front hatch , crawled back , sat side sattle & basicly tipped on purpose

i then wanted to get some knarly water practice so i paddled around my house in pittsburg , that main channel in suisun bay in the summer months can be brutal but i felt much safer on my yak then on my powerboat!

then just started showing up to the hookups and met some cool dudes and soaked some game from the OGs and nowdays i feel confident enough to go on solo missions around sonoma coast , the bay & delta , still working out that mateo coast though cuz that can be dicey even on a good day
also look into getting all the safety equipment and feel free to holler at me if i post any hookups.

Welcome aboard WWSJD. There is no turning back now just to let you know. Once
you have a taste of some hookups, you're hooked for good. There are a bunch of
great folks here that are willing to guide you and teach you all the things you
need to know about kayak fishing. Post any questions you may have in the
choosing a kayak section and you will have tons of answers. Goodluck and hope to fish with you soon. Love your screen name BTW.
