GF and I went to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park last weekend for 4 days.  We had a great time, and the there were plenty of trout to see even though the water levels were really low.  I kept my perfect average in tact and caught nothing in Sequoia, but had multiple hits in Kings Canyon right at the Ceder Grove Lodge.  The whole barbless hook really short rod did not work to my advantage.  I did my fly rod all the way up to Heather lake at some 9600 + feet elevation.  Time was short and I only got a few casts off before we had to head back down the trail before it got dark.  This hike took far longer than we had anticipated, we went via the scenic "Watchtower trail" and it added another hour of hiking on (or it felt like another hour).  The veiws were some of the finest I have ever seen.  Worth the hike alone.  Heather lake was gorgeous and also worth the hike.  I hate giving skunk reports but this one was better than most.

Bear activity was high, as we saw three at the General Sherman Tree, and a couple of hikers a minute ahead of us on the Watchtower trail saw a Momma and two cubs.  I would also chalk this up to the most strenuous workout I have done to get to a fishing hole.

Very cool report KMS!  Absolutely gorgeous, loved the photos.

By any chance, is that the pocket fisherman in the last pic? :smt003  How did you like it?  I've always wondered about it.

Oh man, the Watchtower trail is incredible. Haven't been there in 20 or 30 years. Spectacular cliffs there.

Didnt they used to be called Fishin Magician?  Or am I giving away my age?  I remember the TV ad showing somebody nailing tarpon with one in the Keys.  Legendary.

I spent a summer in the Kenai area of Alaska about 10 years OR SO ago.  One time we were fishing for red salmon on a smaller stream, wading elbow to elbow, and a black bear got interested and was pacing the shore waiting for someone to catch one.  It would have been interesting.  I dont remember if anyone got one.
