I made a freedive stringer that will also work very well for a yak. The big game stringers work fine but they take up room and you have to open them to put a fish on them. They also cost money. My freedive stringer doesn't have to be opened or shut it will roll up and fit in your pocket and it cost about $1.50.

I used a tent spike from the dollar store, 300 lb mono left over from a speargun rigging and two brass crimps. I think 50-80 lb mono would work fine on a kayak. Drill the spike in the middle so it will toggle on the other side of the fish once pushed through.

Push the non-spike loop end through a pad eye and then run the spike end through the non-spike end loop. When you catch a fish all you have to do is push the spike through the jaw, head or whereever you want. As soon as the spike comes out the other side your fish is secure. You can make it short for diving or a little longer for your yak. You can hang it over the side to keep your fish fresh (risk of predator eating your fish) or just toss the secure fish in your foot well or tank well. Like I said it cost 1.50. You could do the same thing with some cord. Mono is nice because it won't get smelly like cord will.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

Great idea! Cheap and easy to make too.  Thanks for sharing  :smt001
