Well its that time of year again, my anual trip to Eagle Lake. Ive always bait fished that lake and because of that it makes catch and release more difficult due to hook swalloing. So I have decided to fly fish 60-70% of the time and harvest less than my limit. That being said I have never fly fished the lake so if anyone here has and could give me some pointers I would greatly appreciate it. Heres a fish from last year. P.S. if you have never fished this lake you are missing out.

I've always fished it from a boat, trolling J-fair trolling flies on lead core line with a LONG 6# leader.  Used to do an annual trip up there around Thanksgiving... cold weather but when the fish are in the shallows it's some of the most fun fishing there is.

Cinammon and Olive flies tended to be pretty consistent producers.

KZ,

I almost didn't recognise you in that picture, them those younger years  :smt003

I fished eagle lake for the first time in July 2005. I rented a boat for $75.00 dollars and explored and fished just like all the other fisher people. Bobber and night crawler. Best spot at the time was a spot, i think it was called Eagle Point. All i know was that area was supposed to be the deepest part of the lake. The out come was that i didn't catch a fish while i was on the boat. I did manage to get one in the Three Pound range on my last day, off the shore line near the camp site. Lots of fun and those Eagle Lake Rainbows are awesome fighters and great tasting.

BML,thanks for the report. I haven't been back since but will have to go during the winter when the weather is not to warm. July was baking!
