For whatever it's worth, why do people think that pigs are going to charge them? Most hogs, if they do end up running towards you, is because they just happen to be fleeing and didn't see you standing there. I think there are true Russian boars that might try to hurt you, but there isn't a pig at Sonoma that will do that. Bring them on!
Also FYI, there is a new archery range at Lk Sonoma, and they are having a Halloween Shoot this next saturday, the 10th, at 3 pm. It is being run by the Sonoma County Bowmen. You can show up and join! The range is public as well. Google "Sonoma County Bowmen." I plan on joining their club this saturday.
Besides this saturday's shoot, pm me and I'll go shoot with you.

One more pic... the obligatory look-away shot... not quite Hydrospider quality but I'm working on it.

I have a friend here that shot one 8 yrs. ago after the pigs scattered and ran he bent over to take care of his pig . One came back lifted him from the crotch through the air. He rolled over and shot that one with his side arm. His brother was there to race him to the emergency room. 300 stiches later missed the main artery by less than 1/8" and the sack by about the same. I asked 1 day why he put a small one on his wall when he had so many picks of monsters. I have several more stories just like that one . I still hunt them by myself going out at 3 in the morning.

Eric, happiness is a pile of pigs in the forest!
Brian, thanks for sharing you friend's experience. I don't have tons of experience hunting pigs, but I do have several under my belt and have never felt threatened. I realize that doesn't mean it won't happen though. I'll keep my guard up as I hunt alone as well.

I always noc up another arrow or chamber another round. Just in case. I had a friend chased up a tree from wounding a pig with a bow. Good thing he made it to a tree. We were at Laguna Ranch in King city far away from anywhere.

Eric nice hogs. My brother had a T/C Contender in 30-30 cal. Not the nicest cal. to shoot. By back in the late 70 they did not have to many barrels to choose from.

Hey Erik... Just discovered this report.  AWESOME!

I'm glad to hear Lake Sonoma eliminating the shotgun season for hogs.  It was getting frickin crazy.  Maybe I'll get shot with my bow this year.

Although I'm not much of a hunter (did a little growing up), that is one heck of a bounty.  My mouth salivates thinking the endless possibilities with the meat.

I'd have loved to seen the FisHunter pose. :smt003
