I am reading a collection of essays on the wing shooting life (Steve Smith, "Picking Your Shots", 1986) and I just had to share this joke from it:

Seems one a man let his emotions run away with him and a beautiful your secretary was "available". One thing led to another, and soon the man was "compromised". On his way home, he stopped at a gun shop and bought some Hoppe's #9 and rubbed it on his hands.

entering his house, he found his wife waiting, glaring at him. "Where have you been?" she screamed. "Dear", said the man, "I got carried away with a new secretary, one thing led to another, and I was unfaithful to you. Please forgive me".

The man's wife reached out, grabbed his hand, lifted it to her face, and smelled it.

"If only it were that simple," she said, "but it's not--you bought another gun!"
