played a bit of hooky...launched about 1pm. Did a TON of paddling, loads of bait between teh dog beach and the guard tower, finally cracked the code and landed 6, lost 2 starting about 2pm off hte water at 3:15. Nothing big, one maybe keeper all the rest probably about 16". Seemed like a nice one came unbuttoned- but they were being suicidal so could have been a dink.

went through a ton of different lures, but they finally wanted a Pet spoon.

Sounded like a lot of fun! WTG!
I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

suprised? If people had pet rocks, why not pet spoons?  LOL
PET spoon...those things are shallow water KILLERS.  http://www.striper.net/tackle_lures_spoons_pet-spoons.htm
Old skool i know, we used to use them when i was a kid- big honkin' ones, casted from Taraval hole....

if nothing else works then that's the go-to lure. I use the little #1s mostly with the white feather tail, but have the bigger sizes. Thing is awesome on redfish and snook too.

Yep, same here (not Taraval hole, though). My grandfather had a bunch of those things in his bay arsenal - I think he sometimes stuck those UNCLE JOSH pork rinds on the hooks.
