I'm looking for a rod that can break down very small for taking on hikes or long bike rides.  I used to own a cheap telescopic rod that was like fishing with 5 feet of pipe -- no flex, heavy, not a lot of fun.

So I'm wondering if any of you have experience with rods that break down small and are (hopefully) light in the 4-10lb tackle range.

Thanks!

I just hooked myself up with a 7' South Bend telescopic medium (10-17lb) rod from GoFishin.com.  Only $10.49!

I decided on the heavier duty rod because my primary target will be surf perch.  With this rod and a nice lightweight spinner I already have, I'll be able to cycle down to the beaches around Aptos and La Selva and be perching within moments.

Rod
Reel
MORF + little hooks + leader line
sliding sinkers
needle nose plyers
digital camera
ruler
dive booties
towel

That'll all fit into a single saddlebag no problem!

When I go backpacking I take a 5' UL Uglystick 2 piece.  It breaks down small and works great.

I have a Daiwa 4 piece that came with a reel and case. Think I bought it at REI years ago. I love it.

I bought one from ROSS, very cheap !!! perfect inside of my Jet Ski's storage..Sometimes you feel like fishing when you get tired playing in the water...

BIGRED, as posted elsewhere on this site, if you want small go to EMMROD.com. You might even have enough room for extra cheesecake for ballast you think the girls might like!

ReelKnots,  I think my girlfriend gave me the same combo for X-mass.    The rod collapses down to about 9", really cheap reel, and a round little multi chambered tackle container (like 3" dia round) :smt005  and it all fit's into it's own, small zippered bag.   I saw the the remanants of the Ross price tag on it.  (we did ourX-mass early) so now I have a rod I can keep my truck all the time!  (I'll toss the reel for one of my shimano 1000's or 2000's though :smt005.

Well, it's been a number of surf perch and other outings since I got my telescopic rod and it has done a great job.  Heavy enough for shore fishing in the ocean but light enough to fling little crappie jigs at Antonelli pond.  The whole rig, including my freshwater tacklebox, rides in the back of my car in case I spot some good looking water!
