Bleach is chlorine.  Chlorine is a great disinfectant.  As it evaporates it turns into chlorine gas.  Chlorine gas is DEADLY (including you and/or bacteria).  Air it out BIG TIME!
AWESOME!  Maybee I will put some bugs or critters in there when I gas it and see what happends.

I have no fish smell prob, not cuz I don't catch fish, I just transport them cleanly.
All my abs and fish go into dry bags, then in the ice chest. This way it doesn't contaminate any other food in the ice chest. When I get home I empty the dry bags, fill them 2/3rds of the way with water, add some bleach, shake 'em up, and let them sit over night. Next day just dump and rinse and they are good to go.
I also soak my goodie bag in a bleach/water solution overnight.
If I was to forget something in the dry bag, the funk would be contained within it, not within the truck.

I have a related problem. A couple of years ago, while parked at the Ventura harbor for three days during a lobster trip, my car was invaded by ants. Took me almost a year to get rid of them, including ant traps in the car!
Now guess what happened again on this months lobster trip?!  :smt013

Well if you decide to go lobster diving again, get some lawn pest granules, sprinkle a little around each tire, that will do the trick.
I have a rel nice fire pit in my yard surrounded by compacted gravel. I have 6 of those all weather Adirondack chairs made out of the heavy duty plastic around the pit. For whatever reason the ants loved crawling all over them. I sprayed and sprayed, but it didn't resolve the prob. Sprinkled some Sevin lawn pest granuals on the gravel, no more ants.
When you get back from your dive you can sweep up whatever is still on the ground to make the Enviros happy.

I like the smell but it seems to bother other passengers such as my GF.  My car always smells like fish and old french fries and I don't know how to get rid of it.  I have tried airing it out and saturating it in febreeze.  Nothing seems to work.  I think the smell is in the carpet.

You've been carrying those same three rockfish in you pic for a couple of months.  I've bet they're starting to stink!

You can also buy one of those car air fresheners and open it all the way...just don't buy fish scented

If you convert to biodiesel then your car can smell like french fries all the time.

Hey Travis,

Try spreading baking soda on the carpet and vacuum it up next day.
That should absorb the smell.

Good luck!!!

You most likely have some fish or sea creature juices that have soaked into your carpet and carpet padding. You need to shampoo the whole carpet, that's what I always end up doing. It's the last time I buy a van, who cares if the back of a pickup smells?

In some cars it is relatively simple to remove the whole carpet. This works really well. You can really soak it down and shampoo it good then hang it over something and hose it down and let it dry. I used to do this with a carpet in my 81 Isuzu.

It is also a good idea to use a shop vac to suck up as much water as possible when you are done.

My van smells, but that just gives it character.  :smt005

What do you know about the Salmon Nation people.  I came across them a couple years ago and am on their mailing list.  Sometimes I question their motives, but haven't done so much research on them.

One of their mottos is "Save the Fish, Save the Fishermen" and they are NOT talking about sports fishermen.

Hmmm I am thinking about ripping all my carpet out of my blazer and having it rhino lined.

Nada never gone past the cleaning page sounds too much like ":Raider Nation" for me to have any interest.
