It goes like this.....

I was fortunate enough to get high enough on last years AOTY to receive a couple of prizes, to include a $50. gift certificate from Hook 1. Since I'm going on the Islander trip next weekend, I thought I would use my gift certificate to purchase a couple of drift chutes (one for me and one for Andy).

I placed my order on Wednesday (9-23) and in the check out section, it has a place for gift certificates. I put the gift certificate number in, my shipping address, and my credit card info and hit the purchase button. I immediately notice the $50.00 gift certificate wasn't credited at checkout. I figured they would catch it before they billed my card, so what the heck, I'd just sit back and wait for my order.

On 9-24 I received an email confirming my order and advising it had shipped, but it still listed the full price. I sent an email to Karen, which was the name on the email and the name on the gift certificate advising that the gift certificate didn't show up on the order.

This is what I sent.....

"I have a question about the coupon that didn't seem to apply. The coupon number is norcal08, and I put it in the coupon spot, but apparently it didn't apply. Your thoughts....."

I immediately received an email back form Karen advising...

"Hi Dan,

I'll take the 10% off for you.

Thanks for the order,
Karen "

So, I replied with....

"Thanks anyway, but it was a $50 gift certificate.

Dan"

Then she replied with.....

"Hi Dan,

When did you get it?  We sent it to be used back in Feb of 2008...

Let me know and we can work something out.

Thanks,
Karen"

So, I replied with.......

"Karen,

I got the gift certificate as a top finisher in the NorCal Kayak Anglers Angler Of The Year fishing tournament. The gift certificate shows an expiration date of 01/2010 and the coupon number listed is NORCAL08. The authorized by portion of the coupon reflects "Karen".

Dan"

I haven't heard anything back yet, but the drift chutes arrived today.

I must say that they are real fast with shipping, but this is likely my last purchase.

Mahi out!

Give them a chance, she'll likely come through.  Maybe offer to send it to her for verification - just a thought.  Hope it works out.

I'm with Mike...Karen will pull through. She just might have the coupons and promos for us mixed up.

You know the old saying :S@$t happens. I too believe Karen will take care of this. I've never had a problem with hook1. Once Karen figures it out I'm sure she will make it all good. Give them a chance. They have been big supporters of NCKA. We all make mistakes every once in awhile.

I agree with dilbeck, EWB, and BEN...I have made multiple orders through Hook1 and have been extremely satisfied each time....

In my experience sometimes an actual phone conversation can solve a problem much quicker than a volley of emails....

Just my thoughts...

Sincerely,

Jim

I happened to be in the Capistrano Beach area a couple of months ago and dropped in the Hook 1 "store".  It's a very small family run operation that they run at their house and the "warehouse" is the garage.  I've chatted with Karen, she was very nice and not clinical at all.  I would suspect that she just needed time to verify the coupon...Mooch, a little support here would be appropriate.

Anyway, I would encourage anyone that's considering a purchase to give them a chance.  They specialize in kayak fishing gear, know the what they're talking about and have reasonable prices.  I have purchased a set of Wheelez, boga grips, kayak handles and a game clip and they were all high quality.  No, they don't sponsor me, I'm not that good a fisherman...lol

I will second what Sandman said. I've ordered once from them and did not open the package for THREE months only to find I shorted one game clip. After being notified, she (or Mark) sent me another one promptly.

I stop by to visit and make purchases every year after my tuna trip. Nice people. Can't say the same for some of her neighbors.

I used them a week ago for the first time. Ordered a couple of Ram mount tube rod holders on a Sunday night, shipped out Monday and got it Wednesday.
No problems, no hassels and the receipt had a hand written Thank You.
Personally I like the way they roll.

I have made many purchases from Hook1 and Karen. The service has always been stellar. They are hardcore yak anglers themselves and donate generously to the sport. They have my loyalty forever.............

Hey my NorCal friends!!

You guys are so great!!!

Dan - The code was "old" and therefore didn't work in the system.  I number my Gift Certificates differently than in the past, so when I saw the NorCal08, I assumed (my mistake) that is was a 10% off coupon code.  I did refund the 10% right away.  When you e-mail Friday night and we e-mailed again on Saturday morning, I looked up the Gift Cert code and was going to e-mail you when I had time.

We left soon after my Saturday morning e-mail to a 50th Birthday Party 2 hours away.  WHAT FUN IT WAS !!  I got to play horseshoes, shoot bow and arrows, shoot a BB gun and cast - all for competition - in 104 degrees!!!  But with some beer, misters and some shade, it was a great time.  So ... just got home ....

I was going to figure it all up on Monday morning and refund the remaining mula :) and e-mail you!

Thank you to all of you guys who love me :)   We are small enough to be a personal store where you get to talk to the person who does it all - ME  :smt045  So .... you'll always talk to the right person.

We appreciate the business and are always here to help, give, and sell .... of course :)

Thanks again and Dan, I will make it right ... just left for the weekend.

Have a great Sunday !!!
