Hops.  If you want to try to imitate Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, you need Cascade hops.  Fresh is the best, and the price of hops went crazy last year so lots of guys are growing their own.

also kind of fun growing them.. they seem to grow about half a foot a day and climb nicely up an arbor or anything else they can attach to.

Here's what I harvested yesterday:
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

My mom loves strawberries they have another garden (small) back @ thier hm...mainly some herbs and flowers... :smt001

I miss having a garden I grew up with one also 2 acres in Citrus hights. I have 5 7ft tall tomatoes and 3 3ft bell peppers its all I could fit in my planter boxes.
Nice, if I could only have one thing,  it would be  tomatoes...well two things...onions... :smt003
We plant tomatoes, corn, and cucumbers only.

I haven't done a garden for years but used to grow the biggest, baddest beefsteak tomatoes back in the suburbs. Had a couple beehives, too. I'd love to do that again. Think anyone would mind if I put one on the roof of the apartment...?

Beefsteak toematoes rule...ummmm fresh honey... :smt001
I get everything I need from my garden in the pic below.

When I'm not around my parents, thats what i do...but its like cooking up the fish on the beach or back @ camp...not quite the same... :smt001

Heres one of my garden..  getting a bit long in the tooth atm but its been going gangbusters this year.  Just picked a bunch of tomatoes to can this morning.

:)  Actually homebrewing is kind of like kayaking.   A bit of upfront expense to start.. (not much actually) and then you keep finding things you *need*.     Pretty easy once you get going on it.

Promethean.. that is a helluva garden!  I would love to have that much room.

I've got half a dozen hop plants, but they aren't doing all that great.  There's construction going on in the area of the yard where perennial plantings will go (like hops and asparagus), so they're in large pots (~5g bucket sized), maybe that's a bit cramped for them.

I know what you mean about hombrewing gear.  I've got 2 carboys of Oktoberfest in a chest freezer with a thermostat for lagering...    ;)

:smt003I was going along nicely and inexpensively until I decided to start brewing all grain and trying recipes from some of the brewing forums that I read.   Then I discovered that kegging was easier than bottling and so I scoured craigs for a chest freezer to make a keggerator out of.   That took some WAF.   Acutally, much of the waf is made up if one of the kegs is a stout or porter.   :smt004

Okay, so I don't have a victory garden, but can I play too with my landscaping?

It's a work in progress, but looking better every year!

Gingko, Birch, Chinese Pistachio, flowering plum, and a few weeds between them.

My only edibles are lemons, rosemary, and basil...but I'll work on it.

Best,

Paul
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

That looks great!  I esp like the rock walls.. did the rock come from your property while landscaping?
