Most of you know I am involved with the fish sniffer as well as the NCKA.  I have a new forum on there about kayak fishing, I invite all of you to check it out, and chime in to help with technical advice to people asking questions.  I have a message into Bill to ask if I can post NCKA and sniffer events and info on here in regards to kayak fishing, I have the same question to the sniffer high brass if I can post NCKA events and info there. I think it will be a great way to promote our sport over a much more broad audience.

Hey Rich, what's going on over at the FS?  Seems like a bunch of people are jumping ship for Imhooked.com.  I don't spend a lot of time at the FS site, but obviously I missed something.  Care to elaborate?

I can't publicly go into it, you guys understand, but there was a change of ownership, and some people were disenchanted with the new owners and the business plan. They jumped ship to a different site, and we (FS) are back up and running, improving on what we had before the transition.  Myself being a kayak nut, and the explosion in the popularity recently, have been delegated to man the kayak board. Politics aside, both websites are fantastic, a lot of information, as well as NCKA, we are all great.  I don't even know the whole story so I can only imagine what the bad blood if any was all about.

They have given me a clear slate to work with, and I am excited.  I think that there are a lot of opportunities to increase what we do, and have more outings/derbies, and gatherings. (I secretly say that because the potlucks at the sniffer fests do not compare to NCKA, and that so needs to change!)

Dude, I will not post under the heading of "Tubes, Toons, Rafts and Yaks"; it makes us sound like circus clowns. At 1,700 strong and with a currently rich board full of categories here, kayak anglers deserve their own category at least. I like you as a person and kayak angler and you seem to be a stand-up guy, but have a talk with them about this. I won't post under that laughable heading. I'll stay here.

It is already done, the old one will be inflatables, and then a separate kayak board.  I am going to stay here too, this is my people, but the fish sniffer is another great organization that I support, and there is a wealth of knowledge there too.

Fair enough. I am still uneasy with the overly commercial meat-any-way-we-can-get-it-and-all-we-can approach at FS, but maybe it will work out.

I am not a clown, nor a puppet.  If you see something you do not like, my door is open via PM.  And, I know that there has been some serious changes talked about, and that is one reason myself and select others are now on staff. (I own an inflatable, but never use it. haha)

I know--I see your posts and I think you are a stand up guy and said so. I appreciate your openness and I believe you are doing this honestly in hopes of helping us all in building a wider kayak fishing community. If we can pull that off, we'll have a better posture to confront issues like the MLPAs zones. Fishing is a specialized and fractured community that would have much more strength if we could work together. Maybe this is a start.

Oh and, BTW, I still use my float tube sometimes at the Forebay--when the wind is 6-10 mph, rather than muck with an anchor, I can fin with my feet to hold a course and have both hands free to fish. (and don't you Hobie guys start in--float tube are light and simple and easy for short fishing distances in freshwater lakes). They aren't as mobile as kayaks but they have their place. Lee Haskin my mentor in fly fishing at the Forebay who introduced me over a decade ago uses a float tube exclusively and very well--and has a 39 pounder landed from his on the record. He still out-fishes me 3-to-1 every dang time.

You want to learn the Forebay, this is the guy. The pic on the site is that 48-pounder.

Montana, I sent you a PM already but I don't see how we can grow together, only how you can siphon off people and post from NCKA.  Am I missing something?

That said if people want to visit fishsniffer then they are free to.

NCKA,

I'll stick with NCKA for my original posts and articles (yes I've got one in the works) but I'll participate a bit to see how it goes. But the purpose will be to draw potential kayakers to the NCKA site--not to point them away to FS instead for kayaking news and info.

I think Montant N8V is hoenstly trying to build a greater community and after our resounding failure with the North-Central Coast MLPAs, I can see that point of view. The main thing for me is to support this site as a unique kayak fishing site--I will not do anything to take away from this site's revenues or advertising. I checked out Fish Sniffer and Imhooked.com--just look at the ads--they are meat markets frankly. I don't see nearly as much of the sense of community and sport I find at NCKA. Maybe that's a hasty conclusion, but that's what I see and any of you can too--just go look for yourselves right now and decide for yourselves.

http://www.fishsniffer.com/
http://www.imhooked.com/

The front page is all about the meat--no mention of sport like we have at NCKA. It's just slinging whatever for meat. that's industrialization--it's Safeway. I'll give it time, but I am wary. I don't blame MontanaN8V, I think he means well enough for this but I intend to be careful and cautious.

As my grandfather from Wales would say: "Dance with the one that brought you" or you better have a darn good reason for breaking that pact.
