And when in Guadalajara, don't drink the bottled water with ice!!!!! :smt013 :smt013 :smt009 :smt010

I had a business trip there on Aug 11th and 12th. Client took me to an excellent seafood restaurant. I asked for bottled water, they brought it with a glass stuffed with ice cubes. We holiday in Puerta Vallarta every spring, and they use filtered water for ice.. So I assumed that these nice ice cubes here in Guadalajara would of course be the same......... :smt011  ASSuME

My doctor doesn't understand how it didn't hit me until 8/26, normally it hits within 4 days, told him I'm just stubborn that way.

I now am 5 lbs lighter and have been diagnosed with Campylobacteriosis, a very common form of food poisoning...

The bacteria will run its course, and my doctor says I should be fine
in a few more days....

Not the diet plan I recommend.......

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant diet. Periodic reminders are good - thanks for posting.

we always joked it was the "third world diet plan"...

also in some places: don't eat the fresh vegetables-- like the tomatoes, cukes, etc....

Here's my equivalent story:
In Ladakh in '90, up about 16K, watch the cook take a pot of water from teh stream near the small village (just downstream from where some ladies were washing their laundry- i kid you not) we were camped by...toss it on the stove, it comes to a boil, off it comes...and into tea.  drink tea. realize the boiling temp at that altitude not hot enough to kill bacteria. couple of days later i get both some standard bacterial revenge as well as giardia...

Is the sports club 'El Club Guadalajara' still there??
That place had everything. Multiple soccer fields, 10 meter diving platform, grass, clay and cement tennis courts, squash, jai ali...the coolest sports club I have ever been to.
Drink the bottle water hot next time and avoid the fresh fruit no matter how great it looks.

Welcome home Rich. I can remember well myself. In Mazatlan 1980. It didnt hit until I was in the driveway after coming home from the airport. I unlocked the front door and just made it in time. I wouldnt even want to think about that shit on the airplane. :smt009

I was down fishing in cabo a few years back and every night they would leave about 6 bottles of water in each room by the bathroom sink.   One of my buddies figured this was for taking on the boat.. and was brushing his teeth with the tap water.   Above each tap were skull and crossbones stickers on the mirror that that said dont drink the water (or something to that affect).    About the third day he was on the hunt for Imodium..  it was ugly!

bummer rich, mine was central america 1989, spent six weeks traveling, walking, busses, flop houses, eating street food,  etc, not a thing wrong. spent the last few days in san jose costa rica, decided to spoil my self and stay in the 5 star hotel across from the opera house and ordered a cheese burger from the room service menu and with out thinking ate my first fresh piece of lettuce in six weeks, thinking ahh it should be fine, dumbest food move of my travels, two days down in the room and i owned that planes bathroom on the 10 hour flight home, cameron

Thanks Guys!!

It's Friday and I'm feeling better...  :smt003

I'm very fortunate that it didn't hit me  sooner as Donna and I were  on the Harley, touring Yosemite, Tahoe, Mt. Lassen, Mercer Caverns, Feather River Canyon, Calistoga, etc..... You forget what a georgeous place we live in...

I gotta get on the water... 7 college kids are invading our house this weekend and demanding fish tacos.... There goes my reserve of San Mateo's coastal bounty.......

That's no fun at all.

I fell into a nasty stagnant beaver pond once and swallowed some equally terrible bug.  Diarrhea for months and I couldn't keep breakfast down either.  I was in remote Alaska with no doctor, so I just drank tons of whiskey which cured it.
