martin, no wonder your kayaks fail inspection if you keep letting them fill up with water like that!

Wow... that is an awesome looking cake. I bet it even tasted better. Hopefully, I'll be able to join in the fun when I get my truck back... in 5-6 weeks.

I was totally out of commission this past weekend. Looks like a great time.
A few observations and questions.
That is by far the most bad@ss cake I have ever seen and my mom made wedding cakes so I have seen a few. Did you make that Michelle?
How did all that water get in the Hobie?? Is there a crack somewhere or is there another kind of leak? Repairable??
How was the water discovered in the failed kayak inspection? Could they see it thru the hull or did thet actually open the hatch and look inside?

Tote,

that was martin's outback. as he said previously, there was a drive well failure while OTW.

as for del valle, they will have you open it up and look inside for water.

Michelle's friend Diana borrowed Martin's kayak and she didn't even realize that the end was near. One of the drive nuts came out and there was a good sized crack.

The kayak was professionally done but Michelle is going to start practicing to be an 'ace of cakes'.

Thank you again for all who came and all the well wishers that could not make it.

People shouldn't freak out over this hobie hull.  It was all my fault.  I shouldn't have used the turbo fins in this year model, and shoulda checked the tension on the cam locks.  Its really no big deal, and totally predictable.  The great thing about this boat?  It was about 1/3 full of water, and it still made it back.  Pretty well designed stuff otherwise.  I was kinda half hoping Diana would ditch it in the middle of the lake anyway.  Give her a good excuse to swim back to the landing.  She, like me, is an open water swimmer and we were both looking for an excuse to get into the water. :smt005

There are two inspectors working near the boat launch.  For car top boats, they get onto stepladders (too close to my car, if you ask me!!) and feel around in the hull.  I had two boats.  The first one (the doomed outback) went fine.  The adventure on the drivers side rack, well, the guy put his hand through the rear hatch, said, "I feel moisture".  Then he moved the ladder, put his hand in the midhull hatch, and SCOOPS out two handfuls of water, said "Your done."  I was like  :smt011

If only i had popped the hatches on the way over, coulda blow dried that sucker.

Well, too bad I couldn't make it.  Really wanted to meet everyone but my friend's daughter decided at the last minute to give her dad a golf retirement party at Springtown golf course in Livermore.  I think it was hotter there than DV.  I really got baked.  I was in DV the week before and tried fishing early but got skunked too.  So, it did not surprise me that fishing was still bad.   The cake was awesome and what a surprise.  I bet nobody knew it was a cake.  Brian must really be special.
