Brian G’s b’day was fun.  Got to DV around 1130, and my adventure FAILED inspection.  so embarrassing, I completely spaced out and forgot about the inspection.  There was about a cup of standing water in the hull from the washdown from a trip about a month ago.   :smt011  I did have my outback also, but that’s a whole other type of FAILURE (as in drivewell failure).  Can’t wait to see THOSE pictures.   :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Anyways, I had a good time just chatting it up with Brian and co.  Met Jed and his family, Surfing Marmot, and a few other nice NCKA’ers.  Also paddled Scott/ GB2 tandem.  Pretty fun boat.  Here’s Scott with a trout he trolled up near the dam on a deep diving plug. :thumright:

When I was paddling Scott’s tandem, I marked a bunch of fish stacked up near the launch in 20 to 30 FOW.  GB2 surmises they were trout.

Here’s Brian G paddling out in some fine weather.  Happy bday Brian!

Great to meet you all. Thanks to NewChickKayaer for the great party--that cake was something else--I got there too late to take a picture of it in its glory. Happy BDay Brian.

My Trident 15 passed inspection since I have yet to put it in the water and was almost finished pimping it. Kayaks are supposed to clean--but they said all the tiny plastic shavings were okay LOL. It ended up more a WAF building experience--my wife, daughters, one of their friends, and our Springer Spaniels attended. Just when I was ready to fish the wife says--let's take to dogs over to the off-leash area. An hour and a half later we're back and then the girls want to swim one more time. And so it went--by then the heat had me just wanting to siesta. Congrats to Scott "GreatBass2" on the catch--must have been the only dang Trout left in there in the 100-degree heat :smt012 Smart fisher as he is, he got there early and trolled deep at the dam. Ah...Foothill reservoirs in Summer--at least Lake del Valle doesn't allow jet skis and waterskiing.

Thanks for getting us together, Michelle, and happy birthday, Brian!

It was hot.

I got there around 10:30, trolled around to the narrows, and came back to meet the NCKA group...  Stuffed myself on the great offerings, then headed up to the dam...  because Scott proved there are still fish...  and I was on a mission..  dam it!

It turned out to be quite a journey...  My fish finder was showing the temp at 103 at one point, while on the water!

I had to stop three times and take dips on the way to the dam, only to be hot and dry again within 15-20 minutes.

Finally made it to the dam around 5:30, marked no fish, and couldn't buy a bite.  BUT!  It was very peaceful down at that end around sunset, with very few other boats around.  The paddle/drift back was the best part of the day, with cooler temperatures and solitude.

Got back to the ramp right at dark, home by 9:15, in bed by 10.

Eric B, dude! You've put in some serious hours on that lake. I was wondering what happened to you.

Scott, man that is a nice trout you caught. You are the go to person
when it comes to learning how to catch those trout.

Michelle, thanks for putting on a nice Birthday party for BrianG. You did
an awesome job. The kayak cake and the rest of the food. My family had
a great time. Thanks again for the invite. I will send some pictures when
I get home. I am on my computer here at work so it would have to wait.

BTW, it was nice meeting new folks I have not met before. Dan(Surfing Marmot), Martin(yakuza), BrianB, and Jonathan. I hope I didn't miss
anybody if so I'm sorry. I am so bad at remembering names.
I hope we can do this again soon.

Jedmo
Oh! it was 109deg when we left the lake.

I almost forgot, THANKS for the water, Jed!  I nabbed two more before heading to the dam, and I surely would have perished without them.

Thank you everyone for coming out amd the bday wishes. It was blazing hot for sure!  The kayak cake was the surprise that Michelle had. It was incredible piece of edible art. It was even equipped with special effects and 'oil canned' like a real yak!

Here is the awesome kayak cake I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the bottom part
of the kayak started to melt from the heat.
