Brand new to this site.  Here's the drill I need to buy a fishing kayak before Friday I'm heading to lake Almanor.  I did have a scupper pro but had to sell it.  Before the MLPA kicks in I will be fishing and ab diving the Sonoma Coast as much as possible.  I[m 5'7 165lbs and can spend $1000.00, what brand and model do you suggest and why?

Welcome to the Board :smt006

My 2 cents would be to purchase an Ocean Kayak, either  P13 Angler or T13 Angler. The P13 does not have the rod pod but you can get a great deal on one of these. The T13 is the newer version with the rod pod. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these. They are both within your price range and an excellent kayak for both fishing and ab diving. If you let us know where your from maybe we can recommend a place to purchase.

Good Luck
Ben

Ben, thanks for the reply.  I live in Sebastopol, and have been down to Clavey in Petaluma and online looking for yaks.

I've got an '06 Wilderness Systems T140 angler edition with rudder.  It comes with a Werner carbon fiber paddle and a cheap two piece back up paddle, a highback seat (I believe its a seaair but I'm too lazy to go look, wheel ez mini wheels and a hand bilge pump.  Its sand color.  I'm the second owner and had it in the water once.  The previous owner said that she used it three times.  A couple minor scratches on the bottom otherwise great shape.  I'll take $1000.00 for the whole works and am located in Humboldt Co.  [email protected] if your interested.

This looks to be a good deal listed on Craigslist in Sacramento for a Tarpon 140...guy is asking $600.

I would spend the hour demoing the two boats of choice and buy the one that feels right to you.  Either OK or WS
