I wound up taking the rest of the week off, so I found the opportunity to sneak out to Fort Ross today.  Launched at about 7:45 and fished until about 2:00.  Socked in with fog until about 10:00, but the ocean was flat... more like a lake than an ocean with just enough breeze to make a nice drift.

My fishfinder pooped out on me... forgot to charge the battery, so I was a little less efficient at finding structure.  Fishing was a bit on the slow side anyway and I never did get the lings dialed in.

Wound up catching an assortment of rockfish and only a couple of under-lings.  Kept one nice 7.5# Vermillion and a 5# Copper as well as a china cod that didn't want to go back down.

Most fish caught on swimbaits tipped with rockfish belly meat that I saved from previous catches.  Dark green worked OK while it was foggy.  Black/Green/Clear sardine color, blue/clear anchovie color, and Black/light Purple color all produced when it was sunny.

Diamond jigs were on and off but seemed to work best under cloud cover.

I mostly fished deep water today, guessing betwen 80 and 100 ft.

Couldn't have asked for more perfect weather and ocean conditions.  Hopefully it holds for the weekend.

Yeah.  What's with the lake like conditions during the week and then raging swell on the weekends?  I took a fishing newbie out into Monterey Bay yesterday........"lake monterey".  Our rockfish were lots smaller than that beautiful red of yours, Erik.  Good catch!
