if the science of the timing of the closures (summer/fall) is sound, that makes a heck of a lot more sense...except that we'll complain loudly that its hard to keep track of all the seasons
too bad that a few can spoil something for the many...

the closure makes some sense. i don't know of a lot of white sturgeon fishermen up that way.

it does appear to be more of a green sturgeon area - so if people are really fishing up there targeting greenies for C&R then i agree with the closure.  as long as the closure area doesn't move further south then this should not affect many sturgeon fishermen.

When I went to college in Chico I always went to Colusa for sturgeon.  I'd seen people C&R green sturgeon while fishing for the big cats that hole up in the Ord Bend area, and unfortunately I heard reports of poaching sturgeon although never witnessed it personally.

There were pictures around Chico of turn of the 20th century fishermen with obscene amounts of green sturgeon and salmon lining the gravel bars after an outing.  I don't know if they are still there, and don't really remember exactly where I saw them ~15-20 years ago - probably in the university library since I was one of about 7 students back in the day who actually knew where the library was. . .
