So which spot should we all launch from?

I'll be launching from Fort Ross... safe bet if there is a bit of wind and swell.  Will be Ab diving as well (as long as I have a partner).

I'm planning to hit the beach at around 7:30.

Looks like the fort is the winner.  Guess I'll be joining in up there.  Like I said, there's fish everywhere.  Maybe we should paddle south to the reef and fish the outer edges of it, then dive the outer edges as well.  It looks too far for people to swim from the shore, and it's a longish paddle, so it should be quite productive.

Anyone interested in carpooling from SF? I'm eager to get some last fishing days in before winter. How is the launch up there? How deep is the water for diving?
Last thing, anyone have a link with directions?
 Thanks...
 Andrew

It's about 2 hours from the GG bridge.  Friday night it can take longer due to traffic.  Lauch is pretty easy, and deep water is an easy paddle.  The kelp beds drop off pretty quickly, so there's only about 20 yards of diveable area along the shore.  It's not like van-damme where there's 40 acres of relatively flat rocky bottom.

I might drive up really early Sat. morning. Is this near Salt Point State Park?

That reef (Pododi's?sp?) is mostly a sandy bottom.  I was lucky enough to have a flat day last month to check it out.  Very disappointed that there wasn't more structure.  You need to be up against the visible rocks to have any structure to fish.  Any swells?.... and well you know what happens :smt002   I did manage a nice 36" ling off the point (the absolute tip! ).  Long paddle for the amount of structure in my opinion.

Hey Loomy... where ya been?  Haven't heard anything out of you for a while.

I agree about the structure, or lack of it at the reef.  Lots of good structure on the way there though.

You going to make it up there on Saturday?
