Congrats on everyone for the great rigging photos of the Prowler tridents--got me wanting one for sure--no more shimmying up to the forward hatch to pull out rods and sonar--just that alone is worth it--but I'll keep the pimped P-15 for speed. Just cannot have it all can we?  :smt012

Anyway, I noticed a lot of the ideas used the rod pod tray for a battery holder--sure fine--but with no water resistance or proofing. That's fine for lakes but, maybe I am too much a safety guy thanks to the military, but I would want my key electronics that exposed to one dump in the surf or a boomer that catches me unawares. Maybe these rigs were temporary--Sean said he was working on a New School II battery system. Just askin'.

I use the brick battery and I store it in the battery bag in the bow that comes with the boat I don't add another bag or box. The bow rides high, so water in the bow that deep and I got bigger issues then a wet battery.

I like the dry bag idea.

What is the best way to adhere the opposite side of the velcro to the hull? Do you use an adhesive like goop?

I keep mine in the tray under the Rod Pod.  It is otherwise naked, but keeping it out of the bilge has made it bombroof.  My batteries have died from dutycycle well before corrosion got a hold on them.

This works better along with anything you want to hang inside your hull.

Check your dive shops, local or online, for the small dry boxes.  This one came from Leisure Pro, and it has a vent in the front of the cover.  I added a waterproof switch and some two wire connectors from Radio Shack

Good info thank you! Hopefully I'll have my kayak by this week and can start figuring out how I want to rig it!

the heavy duty velcro at the hardware store had one sticky side which goes on the hull.  Stuck so far.  I figure as soon as it starts to come up, just do it again.

I like to keep mine in a sealed container for I have had the terminals corrode, + I run my GPS on the same battrey
as the sonar so it would be just to Manny wires flopping around. And I like to use a preservative on the terminals
witch helps with the connections.

Like SBD mine's naked. I keep it in an unzipped small Hobie duffel in my front hatch. All contacts are covered in goop and the wire connection is the waterproof trailer type. I've never had problems but got a chance to really test a few weeks ago when I botched a surf landing after being chased by a grande steller. Kayak must have rolled a few times and there was a gallon or two of water in it. Duffel was a little wet but no problem w/ the battery.

I found this waterproof box at Longs for $5.99.  It's made by Snapware, 7.3 Cups size.  It stands up longways, so will make it harder for water to reach the seal. I stuffed foam around the sides for additional protection and snug fit. I bought a second one because my Humminbird 160 fits perfectly in it for storage.

Was he attacking you or just after bait or a fish on the line?
Let's hope those rascals don't start organizing--there are a lot more of them around than GWSs.
I know male Walruses can be deadly.
