For kayakfishing, is there a preference/difference between hook styles?

The preference is individual.  I personally prefer the standard hook but I made the "commercial style" hook to suit the preferences of a few on this board.  I probably sell 90% of them with standard hooks.

I was thinking about going cheap on a gaff and buying just the hook and rigging one up.. but after looking at your site im leaning heavily on getting one of these.. way nice!

You will not be disappointed Bill. These are very high quality gaffs. At first the price tag made me think twice then I started looking around at pricing for other gaffs and realized that Erik's gaffs are very competitively priced. In fact, most other gaffs I was looking at were priced way higher and didn't look nearly as nice or durable. Not to mention the customization option is really cool. Plus it will make you feel good to support one of the locals  :smt008

I still day dream about having Erik build me a custom yak rod... :smt007

So Erik...how many years long is your waiting list?  :smt002

Don't do it, go with a custom from KZ...they're beautiful, and oh so deadly functional.  Plus you get to support a fellow NCKAer...karma in the bank

Personally I think it makes sense to get the cheapest gaff and net you can.  After all the reason you are reaching for the gaff or net is cuz you have a monster fish to the boat.  You dont really want to bring that thing IN the kayak do you? :smt044 :smt044 :smt003 :smt003

Im thinking that "commercial hook" may be the ticket for taking an overhand swing at a big flattie? any thoughts on this?

scallen loves the commercial style hook and I know he's gotten his fair share of flatties so hopefully he chimes in here.
