Zanders are similar to walleye, I believe, and are sometimes referred to as pike-perch.

The pic sure looks like a Walleye, and I'm surprised as they are not that aggressive of a fish - at least not when compared to a Northern Pike (which are not really not in the pike family I think). I've heard of Northerns putting the bite on swimmers before.

Below are 2 pics of fish caught in Canada last year - my old man with a Walleye, and me with a
Northern. We have landed unhooked Northern before as they attack a smaller walleye that is on the line while at the boat.

They are too stubborn to let go while netting, and you get a 2 fer 1!
