nice to see you guys out there. was my first time at paradise.  i drifted some "fresh dead" shiners as keith called them. in reality they were 1 level above decomp.  i got a few free shiners from cameron after he slipped and hurt himself =( and put them to work. nothing doing.

i tried to find a deep water trough that i had floated past earlier with a big bait ball underneath, but couldnt locate it after the first time.  went out towards the pilings and jigged up a big 9" jacksmelt (only smelt of the day) and drifted him back to the pier with no love. i released my little friend and went home.

had to go home early as i had committed to dinner with my mother and wife.   was hoping you guys who stuck it out were rewarded and looks like you were!

I also slipped twice at the launch, man! that was even though i was using my felt bottom wading boots that i've used in alaska through mossy and algae covered rocks in rushing water.  luckily i have a sizable backside to cushion my fall, and somehow did not try to use my hands/wrists to catch myself, preventing a similar fate of cameron.

it was a fairly successful day for me as i just wanted to get on the water and try out my newly acquired gps and my newly built bait tube.  the bait tube needs a couple of modifications but seemed to work ok.

Finally got some pics to load. Hey Craig, remember those frozen anchovies I was going to throw out at the gas station but instead left in my gear? Neither did I, until now. :smt013................First pic is Sonny's hail mary hali. He said he was going to sleep in the kayak if he had to in order to catch one there. Determination, I love it.

I was out there as well and can tell you it was a long day, indeed.  We were on the water at 8:15 with a dozen skeevy looking shiners.  Many, he was scraping the bottom of the barrel for these boys. I even got two juvenile walleye perch that died on the way to Paradise.  Got a ton of bites the first 2 hours, but could not get anything to stick.  I had my reel on complete freespool with my thumb on the spool to release it at even the lightest bite, but I still got robbed six times in a row. It would be one small but obvious bite, and then nothing.  Three were likely smaller sharks or stripers, but the other three resulted in the shiners looking like they got hit by a slasher movie villain.  My buddy Dan got his first Hali, a 21 incher today as well, and he was pretty stoked. He also got 4 or 5 bites.  It was just one of those days that could have just as easily been a two or three fish day if things would have gone differently.   Still , an awesome day on the water, and I can't wait to get out there again.  Yahoo summer!!!!!

In the "sleigh ride" pic that Sonny took of Craig you can see an aluminum pb speeding off in back of him. These douche bags were right next to Craig when he hooked up his hali and proceeded to berate Craig with their negativity, "Oh you gotta a little shark on huh? We just caught three right where your at." and on and on. Craig let them have an earful and they sped off quick when they saw he DID have a hali on. :smt003 I was laughing and almost dropped my camera. Good times. jim

It could be Ben. I am not sure but they were giving me the razz treatment till they knew it was a halibut. My parting shot was something like" 50 thousand dollar boat and all you can catch is sharks?" If it is them I am wrong about thier ability to catch fish though. :smt044

Yep, it's the North River with the Yamaha outboard.  I was able to zoom in with my original picture to identify them.

Sounds like a bunch of PB elitist douche bags.  Good day on the water, seems like a late bite day.

I say douche bags jokingly. Nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry between the pb's and us. At the end of the day everybody's still a fisherman. I like doing my work-out OTW with my paddle. The pb's do their repairs, maintenance, and scrubing in their driveways or berths, after they refill their gas tanks, truck and boat. jim
