Hey just getting started here and i'm interested in doing my first ocean trip.  I've gone out several times in my local rivers and lakes so thought i would try out some cod fishing.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a good begginer location around the monterey area?

That sounds good.  Which days are you available?  I didn't have any specific dates in mind yet just some time in the next couple of weeks

GREAT beginner spot, the kelp beds by cannery row, launch from the CG pier...

or, launch from DelMonte beach and paddle out to the yellow can buoys 60 FOW, straight out and to the right past the kelp beds.

Good luck

Allen

ps:  try using smaller fly jigs for the suspended schoolie rockfish...ssshhhhh.....

Hey Jac,

I should be able to make tomorrow. You can see my post in hookups.

I can't offer a car pool since I'm picking up my wife and her cousin at OAP on the way back.

Can anyone comment on Linda Mar, I've not been there? Are there any pros/cons compared to MB? I only ask because it's probably an hour closer for Jac and I, and the bite seems to have been pretty good there lately?

Thanks

Ben

LM has big swell right now. It wouldbe tough to launch. See "fishing reports" about garage sell. Water is stillbig. Fish are around tho. If you do go troll for stripers, really good chance.
