My wife, her friend and my buddy Mike and I had a great time camping in Big Sur late last week. Weather was mild to hot with calm waters and plenty of good times to go around. We had an awesome time playing in the small surf conditions and got our fill of fishing as well.

The kelp is really thick this year to the point that lots of the reefs I've fished in the past are unfishable because of all the snags. We took the time to explore a bit and still found some fishable areas with plenty of fish to keep us occupied. Roving schools of agressive Olives and Blacks were the most abundant but we also found a decent pick of quality coppers, vermillions and the occasional lincod to keep things interesting.

I'll try to add some pictures here but I'm not sure how it will work out...

Looks like a necky dolphin to me.  i believe they may have been discontinued, but there are still some used ones floating around.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

Sharky the Necky is a discontinued model called the Cruiser II. It's a two person boat really but I've got a big gut so it works out for me solo just fine. Not a fast boat at all but very stable and fairly versatile. My buddy Mike and I have affectionally nicknamed it the aircraft carrier. Mike is always telling me to get a smaller boat because he has to lug the other half of mine all over the place. (sorry Mike  :smt002)

My older boat was a Necky Dophin which is a great paddler but awful to fish off because it has no primary stabilty. I think I overcompensated toward the stable side with this boat and now want something faster and sleeker again. My next boat will probably be a Tarpon 160.

my second kayak was a necky cruiser, but eventually me and my gear got to heavy for it.  the late great chef stephano caught many fish from a 2 person necky cruiser.  what campground where you at, i have never camped sur, hopefully this summer though.
