Totally support it. 10 posts is nothing. If you are a kayak fisherman (or eager to be one) than you'll burn through it in a sec. I'm more than happy to give back to what this site has given me. Heck, I'm half a country away and I just can't leave it. My name is Zee and I'm addicted to NCKA. :drunken_smilie1:

The rest of the site is open and there's plenty for a newb to learn from. I say onward and upward and to those who lurk, please contribute.
Gracias.

Well, I'm all for the forum change.  I like it, I like it alot, and not because I like Bill so much, but because it's healthy for our fishing spots.  Not like the boaters weren't there first, they'll still be there, just like some of us who had boats before we had our sot kayak's.  Let those other guys learn of a bite some other way.

And, the reason my fishing reports dwindled over the last few years...... well, maybe because of all the needy fishing reports out there.  I honestly want to know what happened to quality fishing reports that included line test, hook sizes, weight, type of lure(not color) and tides?  You don't have to share the lure with me, but really now, I could care less about all the glamour pics of you with your fish.  A few pics is enough, but 10 or more of the same fish is rediculous.  Glamour pics??  I've had a few myself.  Jeeesh.

The scariest thing I've seen was a few years back, this noob almost dies going out with his crabtraps in insane seas and then posting a report about his near death experience.  Next thing I know, the guy shows up where I'm fishing and follows me around for a while, making me feel like if he does something stupid, I might have to save his ass.  All the while his noobie luck is hooking up fish and then loosing them while trying to subdue them on his yak.  yeah buddy, you probably know who you are too....  :smt003

what about the guys who post pics of themselves with fish in other peoples threads?  what about their crazy needs for attention, we may need these lurkers to step up and show some love to these individuals so they'll keep their pics out of our reports.  :smt005

Well, I really had to get those rants out something fierce....  JTF

I didn't catch the Hitler reference, but I think by Goodwin's law this thread now needs to be closed now.   Was the Nazi ref used to belittle someone's opinion?... i.e. Reductio ad Hitlerum

I have trusted my life (literally) with many of you while OTW.

Statements like this make me cringe.

-Allen

Allen,

I didn't mean I go out in the ocean in a bathing suit, trout rod and a reckless attitude. Even the most seasoned waterman is better served by not going alone (look at the recent diver tragedy on the central coast). Despite all the preparation, flotation, radios, wet suits, and safety gear shit can go pear shaped in a minute.  Having help nearby is always a good idea. I was at GSIII when Allen took his spill and I am pretty sure he was happy to have help near by.

Sorry for the threadjack ... but this is important to me.

Not saying that having help nearby isn't a good idea.  But the only person you can trust your life with out there is YOURSELF.  If you fish with me,  please do not trust me to save your life.  I am under no obligation to do so, nor am I trained to do so.  I am not saying I won't give it my all to help out anyone on the water.  But honestly, do you really know me?  Would you trust me to babysit your child?  Probably not.  So why trust me with your life.

-Allen

10th post woot!

polepole, isn't this a bit of a nitpick?  EWB is trying to thank the people he has partnered with on the water for looking out for him and getting his back, which is reciprocated.  Perhaps he could have said "I have been out on the water with many of you, and have comfort knowing that you are there to help me if I get into trouble, just as I am there to help you."**

** [superfasttalking legal disclaimer voice]This in no way obligates me or you, expressed or implied, and I do not warrant that I will actually assist you in the event of an actual emergency.  I am under no legal obligation (perhaps moral, but that is between me and my deity of choice (or absent such deity, my moral compass) and is not of your concern, unless I want to get evangelical and I make no promises that once I have your ear 1.5 miles from land that I won't try to convert you to my given set of religious/social/political beliefs, or perhaps just try to convince you that the Dodgers are the team of the future, thereby exposing me for the charlatan that I am, hope you brought an iPod but don't turn it up too loud since I want you to hear my cries for help over the VHF radio, but if I drown hey you made your peace with that right?  Thanks for goin' fishin' with me though.[/superfasttalking legal disclaimer voice]

Thanks crash that was/is my intent. When a newbie posts we all seems to say (among other things) 'don't go out alone' I assume that for a 'safety in numbers' apprach.  Not b/c you want an gallery present as you fish.

Allen, I'm not taking it personal but that is hard to do when you are quoted in a reply.  :smt002

JTF made me think. I think I could try to up the quality of my posts.
I, for one, like to read the reports for entertainment... mostly. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally do get something usefull from a report, but if tomorrow I didn't have a computer, or was denied access, I'd continue fishing and hooking fish.
I value the connections I've made with like minded people. I like spending time with these guys, you know who you are. I met you all here first. I look forward to knowing more as well.
Right or wrong, I am hesitant to divulge too much in any manner. I figured it out by myself, why should I give up that info, especially to the masses, most who I haven't even fished with before?
I am doing my best to go with the flow.
Keep on truckin' Bill, (and company)!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

I like crash's input.  I also would like a rule that says when a person hits 1000 points they will catch a legal ling, because I can't seem to find any other way, dammit!  :smt013

 :smt002

I'm about due then!  :smt003

I think this is a good idea. I already see more people posting (especially in this thread) I have been a victim of spot burning before. I slimmed down on the details but I still like to share my pictures and play by plays. But most of you know I love to share my spots. A PM can go a long way.  :smt002

I have not post reply on this due to being neutral on this topic, I love the site I was actually debating between upgrading my pontoon kickboat or try a kayak, until a few months ago I bumped into this site, I love salty fishing like KEO said its unlimited possibilities, I got into it so bad specially reading reports watching the videos and vigorously envious on the pix, how you guys do it and what motivates you to paddle that banana looking plastic to the deep blue? As my curiosity progress and the more time I spent lurking, I finally made a decision to get a yak, the thing I love about this is when you post reports yak or non yak the response are just simply amazing not to mentioned no discretion on the location neither nor what strategy how it was caught.. Being newbie gave me strength confident that I am making the right decision in getting yak, of course I speak for myself better yet some newbies, we would love other possible kayakers to have the same experience and motivation in reading reports and then it hit me, I love sharing reports and location exclusively for brothers who enjoy and respects fishing as I would on my spot... I dont wanna see poachers that just there for the taking without discretion, then next time I comeback I wont be having the same results as I had years back. Is restricting reports to a member only is a good idea? Bet your life on it! But will it benefit the possible yakers? It might but not the same way we did! Crash has made a good point 2 weeks report will be enticing enough, yet it wont stop poachers for going to those spots despite of 2 weeks late report, to poachers and lurkers 2 weeks will not make a big difference! That my two cents..Bill us yakers who enjoy this site will always be behind you 101% Thanks
Live today for tomorrow's sake.

Personally, I like a good fish story.  I could care less about the specific equipment being used.  I want to feel what the teller is feeling, I want to experience what they're experiencing, I want to see what they're seeing.  To me, that's what makes a good fish report.  Glamour pics?  Well let me see a few.  I want to see that big smile, the joy in being out on the water, the triump of the catch.

I have eighteen post (18) to my name but I am unable to view the fishing reports...so what gives?  I know that this new policy is a way to avert spot burning and so on, but I am just a occasional kayaker raising two kids and don't get out as much as I would like so, I sort of live vicariously through your reports. I bummed.
