Nice haul, How far out did you have to go?

The gumdrop is 50+ miles from Bodega and we put in about 6 miles west of the mount and we were trolling for 8 or so hours at around 8 knots, so yeah, a long way.

We just finished processing and enjoying some sashimi.  The canner is gonna get a workout tonight!

Just finished quartering the fish and Patrick did the fine tuning. Beautiful looking tenderloins and the bellies are ready for the BBQ and some for smoking. The fish were treated with tender loving care from the moment they came to the boat, gill gaffed and put in the live well to bleed out then packed in tons of ice overnight....nice and firm.

My report. Got up a little after two (couldn't sleep anyways), made coffee, oatmeal, and lunches. Had to stop at the gas station to get ice (250 lbs..$.. ouch) as  Spud Points ice machine was down as usual. Arrived at Bodega to meet our partner boat and we pushed off in the dark. We cleared the jetty and seal rock as the sky was just starting to glow...perfect timing. Brother Russ skippered us across flat seas at just about 25kts while we monitored the radar and kept a good watch for obstacles including whales, seals and porpoise. I learned this lesson the hard way many years ago at cruising speed = one less fur%#g.
We passed over a couple good tempbreaks running to the previous days intel. Arriving on the "grounds" we set out the lines and promptly doubled on a nice pair of fish. There were no birds, whales or other sea life to give any indication of where the fish might be. Basically all the hits were blind strikes that brought you to full attention in a split second. As Patrick wrote, the multiple strikes were mayhem with the number of bendos often exceeding the bodies on board. Patrick put out one of the much  lighter "salmon" rods at one point in hopes of attracting a "line shy" bluefin ...not to be, but he did hook up an albacore for a great light rod fight. Patrick also constantly tweaked the spread of  lures until he came up with just what the fish were looking for.  Good job young man.
We just love fishing local albacore....it's like a trip to Mexico only without the airfare and you get to sleep (well rest anyways) in your own bed at night. It would be great to mothership some kayaks out to the deep blue but without live bait and the need to cover large distances of ground for a strike it's not feasible right now. If the jumpers, birds, and other sea life start showing themselves we will give it a shot.

Another Great (even if not kayak) Adventure on the Deep Blue....oh I didn't mention the extremely blue water...way cool.

Very nice score there guys. Big congrats on the albies. I'll bet that would have
been a blast catching the albacore on a kayak. If ever that may happen someday,
I would like to be part of it. :smt002

WTG guys.

Yes, but would you be able to pick-it-up to 7 to 10 knots while trolling four rods. Or if you could keep bait alive for ten days you could drift for albies while you are resting up for the paddle home. :smt003

any guesses on what my last picture was?
