Got launched at MBK at 7, a pond, overcast, stayed that way until about 10:30, then a breeze with the sun coming out, then by 11, a good breeze came up, by noon it was brisk, nothing serious.  Low swells, very easy launch and landing.
I tried for bait near the wharf, and tho I could see some marks about 10 ft down in 20 fow, I couldn't get any with my squid tipped sabicki.  Moved to the barge and drifted frozen chovie and squid for 45 mins, then trolled east out past the hotel to off the gravel dump in about 70 fow where I drifted the same offerings for another hour, managing a 5 inch sanddab which I soaked for another half hour to no avail.  By then the breeze had come up and I trolled my walleye runner or the bottom back to the launch, but aside from some stray kelp, no action until I got near those condos that step down to the beach, where I scored several medium rockies ,in about 50 fow, that I put back because I was going hali or ling or bust.  It was bust.
The wind and waves subsided as I got back past the tin roof building on the beach - a pretty big corner was quite protected.  I also tried casting a Storm herring on my new $39 West Marine 7 ft pole with salt water spinning reel, I'd let it sink and retrieve it in jerks, but I haven't a clue what I'm doing with it, but it kept me busy, and from paddling my usual too much.  The pole has a good backbone and the drag gradually tightens up so I can't budge the line, so I was hoping I'd have a good story to tell if I managed to land a 'but with it.
But a nice day, with a pretty, bright clear day, tourists enjoying themselves, hopefully spending some money.  I was  listening to the Hawaiian music on Watsonville's 104.7 on the way down and back, it's summer, and I'll get those halibut some other day.

Way to go Tom.  Sorry it wasn't more productive but at least it was a great day.  Thanks for the referral of 2Karats.  We had a lot of fun last week and it looks like we will be doing more fishing together.  The hookups through NCKA is really what we are all about and it certainly adds a whole next dimension to the sport  Looking forward to going out with you again.

Thanks tom:

I have a clinic on sunday, i know where I'm gonna gonow, 50 FOW outside the condos, then buzz out to the buoys, then to the Cannery row Kelp if all else fails.

Good Job resisting that OCD paddling problem you have   LOL

Allen, that "red buoy" just out about 1/4 mile and a little to the east from the launch was not there yesterday.  I know that's where some good fish have come in the past.   Good luck.
