That you use regularly for butts and/or rockfish?

10-25lb rod with 15 - 20lb test is my general purpose setup.

Is that a one-piece or a two-piece rod?  Is it working out for you? There is a guy on Ebay who sells them.

Ugly stick, about six feet. Very whippy. Use it for swimbaits inshore. It has hauled up keeper halibut. But it's a chore. No backbone.

6'6 ugly stick and a similar abu garcia rod - right now i have a shimano crestfire 200 baitcaster w/10 lb mono i use on the abu rod, a shimano 4000 sonora w/14lb mono on the ugly stick - my heavy stick is a 5'6 penn 1 piece w/ an old penn squidder and 50# braid.  I'll use that penn reel on the abu rod also.

mooch special above, but replace the calcutta with a daiwa luna...though i just picked up a baidarka L that i think might become my go to rod (i love my M baidarka)

I just got back from fishing this morning, and caught the majority of them on an 6'6" Angler's Republic 8-16lb with a Daiwa Aggrest (the setup I bought in Japan a couple months ago and which was subject to a "this happened to me" thread.

Anyway, a couple of 19"+ cabbies, and 2 5lb. Blackies later, and I think this will be my go-to rod for rockies! What fun!! And there was still enough backbone in it if I happened to tie into a Lingzilla (though it would be a helluva long fight - provided I could turn him before he hit a hole)...

I started the thread cuz i was worried it might be TOO light, but am now really happy with it.
Just a walleye fisherman from MN tryin' ta get salty!

I like the Daiwa Saltiga jigging rod.  It made for small, strong reels rigged with Spectra.  It would remind you of a bass rod on steroids.

I generally carry 2 rods:
Trevala TVC-70ML, Abu UC5601, 14 lb fireline for swimbaits and 1-2 oz jigs.
Fenwick HMXT 70XHC, Abu UC6501, 20 lb fireline for 3-6 oz stuff.

On the light side I like to have something similar to a freshwater bass rod with 12 pound mono on an abu garcia reel. It's suprising what you can do with light line.

Here are a couple pics from HMB a few years back and also this year at Pigeon Point. I released the Ling at Pigeon point but he put up an awesome tussle in less than 20 feet of water.

I usually bring a 20# setup as well in case the wind picks up and I need bigger lures to get down but I prefer to fish the lighter stuff if given a choice.

I've used a Berkley ultralight for rock fish 6lbtest. Never caught a monster but its a lot of fun with a 15 incher.
