BrianG is totally correct. Bean is not for folks who are not familiar with paddling in changeable ocean conditions, particularly beach launches & landings. The landings can be ....interesting at Bean. You'll be timing sets, paddling in accordingly, then maneuvering to dodge the unsupervised kids who will be running straight for you, directly into the path of your incoming kayak.
Of course, all this is after you've seen that fin...... :shark

This is going to be interesting this will be my second out in the ocean, the weather is looking good for Friday  Forecast       Size     Period Direction
North Swell   3.0 ft   10 sec  319°
South Swell  1.5 ft   13 sec   213°

5-8 knts SW wind, 4 FT Tide 1-2 ft waves

Looks almost perfect to me!!

Yes, conditions should be good. However.....
the last time I fished there the max wave height was forecast to be about 2feet, but the way the waves jack up on the steep beach the actual faces were 5feet with thick shoulders behind 'em. These are dumping waves that can piledrive an unsuspecting yakker. The timing is important, so just be prepared to paddle very fast, or stop, & turn around fast to get out of the impact zone, depending on the set.
I'm not trying to spook anyone, just trying to say that Bean got its reputation for a reason.

Just remember if you're not prepared you are not only putting yourself in danger, but you may also put others in danger if they have to help you.

And: going out is the easy part.  It's coming in that will get ya.

Nope, just a big melon. It's like an orange on a toothpick!

I wouldn't take it too lightly. This is one of the "Sands of Sorrow" that PAL wrote about in WON. I know that I'll be evaluating the surf very carefully before I paddle out and won't think twice about bagging it if I don't like the looks of it.

Just curious as to what all you experienced guys did in preparation for your first bean launch and land, or how many trips did you have under your belt.

Ive swam in the beach break there, but never yaked it. almost sounds easier to swim that baby in :) Id sure hate to loose my gear or break my rods....

We aren't trying to discourage people from going, but part of the experience you gain is knowing what your limits are and when not to launch. The tide also affects the launch. Launching at high tide at the limits of your skill and experience can be certain doom coming back in at low tide.

Thanks Brian, I will observe meticulously before I launch, if its doable I will if not, then it will be plan b for me, I will keep everything in mind when I go there, I may talk dumb, but I'm actually play safe guy, I always wanna see the flop first before I play big pots hypothetically speaking, thanks again

Timing the sets is the key. Get too ansty and you will not be in a good place. I have been at places that break close. With that steep drop off just inside the surf zone. Timing is critical. I definetly wouldnt launch if I felt the least bit uncomfortable. Its not worth it. I've been blown off my board before by rouge waves and it was ok. Just keeping a cool head in the face of adversity and knowing your limits is paramount. I have never launched at the Bean and I am already getting anxious. Maybe nauseous on friday when I leave the house. :smt044

Dam, i feel the anxiety form here.......

I can see coming in being much worse as the tides change, the winds pick up an the break looks nothing like it did when you left. Thats the part that spooks me...

Craig, Good to hear from you, thanks for the input and point of view, It may be my second out in the ocean but I've been practicing my surf launch at Ocean Beach which really scary and intimidating it took me several try before I learn the timing, I will ask Poseidon for guidance Thanks...everyone  :smt005 :smt005
