Lisa and I are going to the Crosby, Stills, Nash concert in September at Ironstone Winery up by Angels Camp/Murphys.  I was wondering if anybody had any advice on the area?  It looks like renting a house boat on New Mellones might be fun?  Are we better off just getting a hotel room at the Old Murphys hotel and exploring some high mountain lakes instead?   Thanks for your advice.

I grew up in the Arnold/Murphys area and still have a lot of family up there. There are a lot of little mountain lakes to explore. I know the houseboat is a little on the expensive side but how cool would it be to hook up the yak to the side and mothership around. But as for the lakes on the Arnold side, just a little drive up Highway 4 there is, White Pines lake, Lake Alpine, Spicer Reservoir, Utica Reservoir, Union Reservoir and Mosquito Lakes. I love all of these little lakes because most are above 5,000 feet, and from what I have read they are finally stocking them again. If you want anymore info on any of these lakes let me know, I can make some quick maps and info for you.

Thanks Jeff, nice stripers!  I am going to head out right now and try for some stripers myself!  Are any of those lakes known for good small mouth fisheries?  I have never been much for trout fishing!

The only one of those lakes that holds bass is White Pines, it's a very small lake. It hold largemouth but they are pretty small but easy and plentiful. Here is a fishing report of local lakes in the area. http://www.ebbettspasssportinggoods.com/fishing.html

I go up that way allot .. I fish new meloines .. eat at the Mexican place just outside of Murphy's .. and will be going to the CSN concert also .. and the one the day before .. Lynard Skynard / Los Lonely Boys .. I'll be staying at the Worldmark Resort just off 4 .. in Angels Camp.
Angels Camp is only about 15 minutes from Ironstone ..
Don't forget your beach chairs .. unless you got seats ..
Should be a fantastic weekend .. fishing Lake Alpine .. and going to the winery in the evening ..
Also going to the Chris Isaak / Brian Setzer band concert on the 6th ..

See ya up there ?
