Show up at the parking area above the cove at 5-5:30 am on Saturday. Buddy up and carry to the cliff and down . Before we go down we will have a quick meeting and discussion about the launch and times to come off the ocean. It will be paramount to have a buddy prior to launch. It will be hard enough to do it once. Think and travel light. Keep your tackle down to a minimum. If you are diving make sure your buddy knows that in advance. An extra 25-35 pounds is a lot. Carry your own weight belt while portaging the kayaks. So who's down?

Anybody still planning on doing this?  Time to start looking at the forecast and see how it develops this week.  Friday is looking pretty good.

I'm thinking of doing it on Sunday, August 2, with my brother. Looks to me like the swells will be coming down.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I truly hope that everyone doing this does their best to also make the meeting on the 5th.

We're doing this on Sunday. My plan is to bring:

My brother
The tandem w/seats, paddles, drift sock, anchor, collapsible net to be legal
Rods/reels
Nalgene bottle with some jigs and swivels.

Wetsuits, weight belt, fins, mask/snorkel, ab hardware

No electronics, rod holders, or life vests (double 7mm neoprene takes care of that)

We plan to launch at Craig's suggested spot and paddle north into the pristine Richardson Ranch. There we plan to shoot underwater video, take some abs, then fish, then paddle back.

Unfortunately, August 1 is out for us...

Hey Craig - Can you use wheels to get to the cliff from the parking area? Also, how many cars can fit there?

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

The park service doesnt allow bikes so I am afraid wheels arent an option. There is plenty of parking along the road right at the creek that separates salt point and richardsons property line. You can fit 20 cars there along hiway1

WHy not launch from Salt point or Stump Beach? It seems the effort involved in bringing the kayaks down the cliff would be better spent paddling on the water.  :smt102

Well its about 6-7 miles into the north from salt point and 3-4 from Stump. Anyway thats not the point. The point is to carry down and it will take way less time than paddling I can assure you. If this doesnt get some support I would suggest joining Malibu2 on Sunday. Hes going down the same trail. The water temps still low for the area and the bite might not be hot till its warms a bit. By August 10th we might knowif this area will closed forever to angling. Stump is a viable launch to access the horseshoe point. Paddle past all of Fisk Mill cove area and then go another mile to the point .
