I second the Morning Star. Gordon and mike(deckhand) are Great! there are many great boats, but I main reason I continue to use the morning star is they never pack the boat(over crowd), so tangles are usually not a big issue.

Has anyone been on the Morning Star recently?

I couldn't find a recent report.

Thanks.

Plenty of choices here, but another is Steve Talmadge on Flash....  Six-pac, a little pricier but worth it.

He fishes 10 hrs, plus he encourages the release of big stripers.

big plus in my book, especially for a party boat.

I have fished the Tigerfish for two years now and have had many good trips to the islands . Al tries very hard to get limits for all of his passengers . I guess I like the boat . Thats where I got my handle , not to mention a 5lb+ tigerfish a year back . Looks good on the wall !

I've also been out on Tigerfish and it's a great boat with a good crew...  My only criticism is they left a trail of floating fish from customers who wanted larger fish in their bags.

When Andrea was crewing she tried to discourage the practice, (altho her words largely fell on deaf ears), but I guess that's just the nature of party boats...

Al is a good capt, though, and his passion for fishing is evident...  He usually pops out and fishes himself when he sets up a good drift.

Any recommendations for boats/captains that at least try not to leave a debris field of floating throw-backs and are otherwise reputable?

I'd love to know the same thing. If they're not leaving a chum line of floaters, they're netting shaker salmon and chucking them, end over end, back into the chop (seen this several times), or sending little halibut back with a tail sliced into ribbons from the net. I'm guessing most of them do this.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
