Haven't posted in sooooo long. New daughter is 6 mos. old now so hopefully there will be more water time for daddy!

Launched Sun. 6pm from Barge Canal Access near the Port. Lots of bank fishers - they were using wax worms for Bluegill. Casted to what looked like a fair topwater bite close to the launch for nada. Decided to get a workout and troll past the moored cargo ships.

Light wind in my face made me think the bite would be hot. After about a mile got tangled up with and released a tiny Striper, it hit a black and gold jointed 5" Rapala. Only fish of the evening.

Trolled further to the 1st light on the deepwater channel past more bankers having little luck. Drifted back casting everything I had to no avail. Beautiful evening, great to get the Scrambler wet. Hoping to get over to the Bay to try for Halis soon.

Good to hear your back in the water, and congrats to the new daughter, as long as you can spend time in the water, thats all that matters :smt003

I fish the port all the time.  I keep a rod rigged with a rapala like that for trolling or if I come across a boil.  I usually drift jumbo minnows down 17'.  The channel and turning basin is 35-42 feet deep along the docks.  The small diaper stripers are in the top column, and the 4-8# schoolies and the hogs are down deeper.  I troll until I find a good bait ball, and drop the minnow down.  I usually do very good.  I have gotten some good ones by drifting a bluegill the same way.  Hope this helps you.  Let me know if you want to hit the port one night after work, I like company out there.

Rich

Thanks all!

I've been lovin all the great info and entertainment on this site while sitting at home.
Now it's time to get back fishin.

Rich: thanks for the hot tips and great info, i don't have a FF, so i'm casting and trolling blind. Haven't used any live bait for awhile, but was thinking of digging some worms. Striper i caught was about as big as a minnow! Likewise for the Port fishing hookup, i usually can leave Woodland at 4:45pm. Been to the Port 2 times, good sized water for around here.

Sledge: camera is and Olympus Stylus (costco $179+-) 10mp h20 proof to 10' (i hope) First OTW shots w/it.
Photos worked on a little in Photoshop. I'm impressed with it so far.

Likey: Yeah I have a classic 52 year old 1manpower motor! :smt004
I just paddle and drag my lures around hoping to get bit while getting a workout and enjoying the scenery.
Congrats on your impending little one, can't wait to get my little girl on the yak w/me!
