I originally planned to be on the water at Paradise early as soon as the gate opened @ 8am. Had to do some work in the city this morning so I got on the water late 1030am. 6 shiners in the livewell ready to fish.

I paddled a 100yards south past the pier and found a great steep drop off that went from 15ft to 27ft, mark the spot on my GPS. BAM get my first hit and bring up a 30.75" flatty. Great fight on my light tackle spinning rod with drag set lite. Net, bonk, & flatty on stringer.

Pinned on another shiner drift over the same spot and rod gets SLAMMED again. Bring the fish to the surface and smacks my yak. Fish unbuttoned! Looked to be in the 26" range.

Pinned on another shiner and set my drift on the same spot and drifted down towards the nice looking house on the beach. SLAM get a big hit in 30fow. Fed it some line, tighten up and set the hook, FIGHT ON! Fish peeling drag, finally get it to the yak and my jaw drops, way bigger than the first fish, flatty in the 36"-37" range. Fish freaks, heads straight back down, and drag peeling. Get the fish back up to the yak and see its mouth wide open when it hits surface. I SEE MY HOOK IN ITS MOUTH HOOKED ONLY TO A TINY FLAP OF SKIN. I freak and grab my net, start leading the fish towards the net, fish FREAKS, fish gone, heart broken.

Wind picks up hard around noon and I stick it out till 130pm. Damn that wind was blowing hard in the area.

Atleast i get a little upgrade.

OFF TO LINDA MAR

Pack up and head down to Linda Mar to hunt for striper. Get there and it was awesome. Wind was down and the waves were flat. The first hour of trolling around was great and the conditions were perfect. The wind picked up after that and it got snotty out there. Got to see some whales which was cool.

Did a total of 5 trolls back and forth from point to point for NADA. Head back in cuz it really started to suck and get a little chilly.

Talked to 2 divers who who scored big time one diver had a bag full of crabs reds/dungie combo and a stringer of big rubberlipped pearch. The other diver had a huge bag of urchins and red/dungie combo.

Mooch showed up kicked it with him for awhile. Wind was snotty and he decided against paddling out. Watch the wahles from the bluff and spied on the surf fisherman with the binoculars.

Thats a cool upgrade. Too bad about the bigger hali. :smt002 I wish you would have hooked-up at LM. That would have been very cool indeed to nail a big bass upgrade also. You still going to the bean on Sat?

WTG on the halibut bro. Sorry about the bigger one that got away. You
must have done it on purpose for him to get bigger for your next trip. It
reminded me it that time at Shelter Cove when you Samurai ed the
Ocean. :smt005 I loved it. Very funny. See you on the water soon bro.

Good job Ariel, I can just picture the disappointment in losing those two halis. Those are the ones that keep you coming back for more.

Good s**t, Ariel. That is one thick lookin' hali.

From one of my go-to spots, too! Nice.
