Looks like an absolutely gorgeous day on the water with a nice variety of fish to keep it interesting, what a way to start your addiction to the big blue,

Unfortunately left my Optio in Pat's truck so no pics for awhile unless Pat posts them. Here are some more details from the day. Met Pat at the Danville park and ride at 5 AM and headed down to MBK. A little overcast when we launched around 7 AM. We targeted halis for an hour and tried to make bait, both for nada. Fished the coast guard jetty and kelp beds off cannary row just east of the SMCA for nada. Sackyak checked in on the VHF and I told him things were really slow and he said things would pick up with the tide change. I asked him where he was and he said he was in his front yard? :-) Headed out to the red buoy and targeted sand dabs. Sand dab fishing was really slow and it took me an hour to hook #5 although one was a real slab. :-) Switched to rock fish and Pat hooked his first rockfish, a nice brown near the red bouy. He was pretty excited and paddled over to show me. Then Pat started hooking fish after fish, probably at least 6 different species. Then he called me on the VHF and said he hooked a "gold fish" which turned out to be a vermillion. Headed down to the yellow buoy at full speed since it was 1030 and some of the boyz had said the wind really picked up in the afternoon. Fished around the yellow buoy till 1230 then headed in. Pat hooked some more rockies on a green 4oz megabait with a green hoochie skirted hook. I caught 6 small to medium rockies on a green twin tail and released them all. Packed up the gear and had a homebrew from BennetDanville which was REALLY good. An English style ale which he named rainy day. Really great day on the water although it did get pretty windy around 1130. There was a bit of boat traffic but none got too close so the wakes weren't bad. I have been using a safety flag since my PB encounter last fall and I think it helps. I will say that watching Pat catch his first rockfish was better than catching a big fish myself. The sand dab dinner was spectacular.

I was radioless as I was doing my maiden free dive at san carlos.  I saw two yaks, yellow and orange.  Figured it was you. Watched you guys in the halibut zone, then the kelp.  Glad you made the decision to head out as I saw little life in the kelp.

Pat, Scott is a strong paddler, so dont feel bad about working hard to keep up with him.  When I follow him, he has usually dropped down and caught a fish before I get there!

I always wondered how that first rockfish bite felt like from a yak.

I'll make sure to share mine, if it happens.  I'm 0 for 2. :smt011

GB2, are you out there? :smt003

Pat... congrats on making that first big step.  I'm sure you'll look back at that day as mere dip in a big swimming pool.

Kudos to GB2.
