In light of new statements by the goverment I want to propose we do the Horseshoe Challenge in June. There is plenty of parking and we will have to carry kayaks for about 1/2 mile to the edge of the cliff trail at the south of Horseshoe. Then carry down to the water. August 1st is the best tide for this endeavor. But I dont think it can wait. I am proposing June 27th Saturday as the target date for it. Meet at 6am or sooner at the northern boundary of Salt Point and find partners to carry with. Coming to the site in doubles would be best. Input is needed here so the largest amount of people will show up. I want the media there also to watch and see what we are going to lose. I also hope the enviros show up. Feedback Please. Use our rights at Salt Point while they are still here. Craig

I think this sounds like a blast Craig. I'll have to see how the date jibes with my calendar. Is the yak carry portion not possible with carts?

Sounds good. I'll be there. Pray for good conditions.

It's been years since I dove Horseshoe and this sounds like a great adventure.

However, isn't it the case that this place is more or less blown out during the predominant NW swell?

I only used to feel safe diving it on S swell days.

Thoughts?

You are so right. The weather is the predominating factor here. Especially for launching and landing. This date can be changed. I just wanted to start the process. So if we wait just right up to the day. we will have an alternative plan like the Fort. Subject to weather conditions? You bet. Craig Thanks for the interest

What about launching out of Fisk Mill?  It looks like it would be about a mile paddle up to horseshoe which isn't much farther than paddling from the launch down to the reef at Fort Ross.  It might be more work to get down to the beach though...

To take kayaks down at Fisk Mill would be a real challenge allright. My point in this adventure is to recreate something I did 8 years ago and make a point for Horseshoe which faces closure. Fisk Mill does also face closures. Someone pmed me about launching st Stump which is way easier to launch but this isnt about being easy and Stump beach wont be closed.  If I did it when I was 48 anyone can do it.

Will BG&BS Yak Hauling Service be available??
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Seriously!  I think one's going to be out of the country while one is out of state.  Better skip it anyway - if they are charging by watts expended, that's gonna be one helluva bill...   :smt044

I'd love to join this historic hookup.  Never fished the 'shoe.

I don't see the escalator in the picture, only a large cliff.

Count me in if the conditions look right, I love the feeling of being tired from a worthy adventure
