Got back yesterday from my Clear Lake Camping, though, no yak but I hope you'll find this report enticing for those who are planning to go Clear lake, We stayed at State Park (Soda Bay), I manage to sneak in for a few hour of fishing, did anyone say shore fishing pressure!! :smt012, I've never seen shoulder to shoulder boat after boat, well I ask a few people they said it was slow I looked at their set-up ummm, I dont think those will work on clear lake at this time of the day, I was walking on the shore with my DropShot rig 2 PM!!, on my third drop, TUG TUG, pull line moves BAM, it was a 3.5lbs, and a few more in the next hour picture coming soon, lets say it was a good fishing for me! :smt002 I was asked what am I doing different, well nothin except I dont cast my line in the middle of the creek when its 90 degrees in the afternoon :smt003, I still wanna fish longer but I got to start cooking dinner, hopefully next time I'll have a yak so I can hide to skip cooking  :smt003

Dinner you say??  :smt005
CPR, I forgot the camera when i was fishing put them in the cooler, back in the water, any bass over 2.5 lbs are CPR, depends on my campers request (dont judge me :smt010) they wanna taste freshly caught Sinigang (Miso/Tamarind Soup) bass, but my general rule is nothing over 2.5 will be eaten  :smt044 its my way of preserving future trophy fish!! I've seen a boy caught a nice crappie on the shore too, I've tried night fishing I almost had a heart attack, "imagine!! your fishing by yourself in the middle of the tullies, no one can see you and you can see no one, howl are howling (woooo wooooo), hear birds flee (plak plak plak) close to where you fishing, and you get that eerie (huuuhh) feeling you brain plays with your imagination that you are seeing things and all of a sudden a big (about 20lbs) Carp jumps and landed on your bibs start flapping like crazy just imagine how you feel!!! :smt005

Now that sounds freaky...and fun...actually sounds like something that should be done... Last yr OC paddling out of launch its still dark...so dark cant see a thing...trying to beat the wind... got out past bolt hole rock...listening to the waves trying to figure out if i should continue...no safety backup at all, no VHF, no Buddy...no whistle, no flare, no nothing...pretty stupid....stupid...caught fish, lots of fish...but could've caught a "Big Ride" and no one would've known.... :smt009

did u have backup plans...people knowing when to chk on u? gps? all the other fun stuff...to keep us simple folk safe??? :smt044 :smt003

Theres only 2 of us that time, my friend got so drunk tried waking him no barge I was too anxious to fish so I went by myself,  :smt003, I dont fish night anymore without anyone knowing, tell them what should i be back, bring more lights, don't fish any unfamiliar water when dark!! be careful night fishing in clear lake, do not go without enough lighting!! Bass Boat are still zooming even in the dark, good luck!!

If I went it would be rodmans slough, can't do much zipping in there, but open water...yeah they scream around 70 mph...there was a write up in the paper and locals are trying to put a speed limit on the lake...like 25-35 mph... been some drunk people not paying attention and ya know if u were in a yak...ummm was on NWKA earlier today reading about a young boy getting ran over on his yak by a guy in a PB!!! :smt013 messed the kid up pretty bad...

So Flags, Lighting all important...

So your buddy passed out and missed the bite...at least you had a good time and came back to talk about... I've sorta changed the way I fish after getting the "real deal" on this site...made me very aware of how foolish I've fished in the past...

talk to you down the road...

thanks for the state park report.

there are those who fish c-lake at night.
was out there last night (south end) throwing frogs into the cheese. A few blowups but couldnt make any stick. Insects are swarming this time of year making it uncomfortable after awhile, but there is alot of surface activity from bass, cats, and carp.
It is kind of creepy out there in the dark and alone but thats what I think makes it so fun.
C-lake really comes to life at night.
now the tribute :evil7:

For sure a must for night fishing on water where boats are present.  It's pretty easy to rig lights on your yack.  I did it years ago on my fish and dive for night time lobster and calico fishing at night in so-cal.  Less than $50 can get you a regular red/green nav light for the bow, a 3 foot pole mount white light for the stern and the shielded marine wireing for inside the hull.  I tied it all together and run it to the same computer backup battery I use for the Sonar.  The battery weights 4 pounds or so, but it lasts for more than 8 hours with the lights and the FF on.  If interested, let me know and I will take pics for anyone who wants to see how i have it set up.  Night fishing is fun.......Lake Sonoma night fishing season is upon us.... :smt003
