Hey there,

I just started kayak angling and love it, but I dont have a vhf radio yet and finally think I need one. Ive never had one before, so I dont want to go out and buy a new one off the bat. If you have used, beat up, spare, that is still working, Ill take it, you name the price. Thanks for your time and this club rocks!

Will do - But I have never owned or used one before. Should I be looking for certain features? Thanks again,

Geoff

That radio has all the features you need, and then some!  I got one (and then another) so did many others.  So far, only heard one complaint, and it was an out of the box issue.  I'd jump on the deal if I were you!

Yup - that $70 SH seems to work a lot better than my $130 Icom.

i got one of those $70 Standard Horizons. Good deal. Features you want are 5watt and a waterproof rating of either JIS7 or IPX7 or better.

Ah thanks Sharky and fellas for the info., I now have a better understanding of what to look for and buy. The West Marine one never replied, so I may just go the ebay route.

I saw your post http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,17696.0.html & bought one for my GF (thanks by the way :smt006).  Like Dustin, I like better than my Icom ic-m34.  I'm probably gonna use it more than she will.
Needed GPS stuff, so I spent $100 there & got no shipping (no sales tax).  They have 10th anniversary special going on too.

The VHF came yesterday, thanks for the heads up in the ebay link.  Seems like a nice piece of kit for $70, heavy!
