Good point, SteveS.  And the family could stay at the lodge.  Pricey but super pleasant.  Or, stay somewhere else on the peninsula and do a daytrip to Stillwater(Carmel).
I didn't bring it up since I wouldn't be able to join them that day and it is nice to buddy up there the first time so that you do the parking thing right and you know that the showers are for your use since you paid $8.50..... :smt004
Maybe Kim would be free that day.

Thank you everyone for all the replies and the many offers. This group is great!

I have been diving for a few years (mid '70s), so I am familiar with many of the north coast and Monterey locations. Ft Ross and Salt Point areas were on my list, but the hotels for 5 of us are limited. I would like to go there to fish in the near future. Camping isn't a problem without the wife.

Also, I mentioned taking my son. I should have clarified that he is 17 and has been kayaking with me for years. We have fished lakes and the delta together, but ocean fishing from the kayak is much different and is new to us both. We have a lot to learn and we're very happy to see Mooch would like to join us.

We dive the Monterey area often, so we decided to visit the HMB area. I've never been there. The wife was able to get us a room at the Harbor View Inn near Pillar Point. I'm sure it's not as nice as the Lodge in PB, but it will do.

Thanks again to all. I look forward to fishing with you in the future.

Al

Hey Al and Mooch,

I may also join you guys, since HMB is just a hop over the hill for me.  I've fished on the jetty there many times, with some success, so it would be great to try fishing there on a kayak.  It will also give me a chance to practice surf launching and landing.  If you post info on the Hookup page, I'll check there.

cheers,
Henry

My first time at Stillwater was an adventure. But I definately would not go out without experinced folks along. Mkae sure you have someone along who has done it a few times before.
